Kappa in South Africa
FRATERNITY OFFICIALS TRAVEL TO SOUTH AFRICA TO EXPLORE CHAPTER
CHARTERINGS AND OTHER PARTNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Philadelphia, PA, November 2004- Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. is
proud to announce that members of its Leadership Team will be traveling
to Johannesburg, South Africa to explore the possibility of chartering
chapters as well as other partnership opportunities. Grand Polemarch,
Samuel C. Hamilton, and Executive Director, Richard Lee Snow, will be a
part of a group of over 35 people journeying to South Africa as part of
the National Racial Reconciliation Day celebration headed by Ambassador
Andrew Young and Dr. Charles H. Beady, Jr., President of the Piney Woods
School of Mississippi. The December 16th celebration will mark the
tenth anniversary since the country's abolishment of apartheid.
The tour, which includes visits to Johannesburg, Soweto, and Cape Town,
will take place December 11-23, 2004. Hamilton and Snow will join the
group from December 11-18 and will meet with local fraternity,
university and community representatives in Johannesburg to explore the
possibilities of having a Kappa presence in the region. Said Hamilton,
"We are extremely excited about this unique opportunity for Kappa.
While Kappa has a presence in several locations outside of the
continental United States, it has always been a dream of fraternity
leaders, for obvious reasons, to charter a chapter in Africa and to have
a meaningful relationship within the various communities there."
Highlighting the tour will be performances by the Piney Woods School
Cotton Blossom Singers at several local churches.
The Fraternity is still soliciting support for contacts in the area that
can be helpful to its efforts. If you have any contacts in the region,
please contact Richard Lee Snow at the number listed above.
