Save Money - Olay Lotion

Hey all! I just bought the new Olay Shower Lotion stuff for...count 'em...SIX DOLLARS AND $.99!! Ridiculous!!!

Anyway, I wanted to try it to see what it was. Let me save you all some money. Here's the big secret:

It's just creamy baby oil and petroleum jelly with a little bit of scent. (For pete's sake, I can SMELL the petroleum jelly! LOL!)

If you want to save lots of money, I'd just get non-name brand creamy baby oil and petroleum jelly. Then, when you've washed yourself in the shower, take a little bit of creamy baby lotion and a little less of petroleum jelly, rub them together in your hands and smear them on yourself. Then rinse off really well, pat dry and VOILA!!

Be careful though, it can be slippery!

ETA: I'm saying creamy baby oil not creamy baby lotion. There's a difference!

The Olay company tests on animals. Just an F.Y.I. Not everyone cares but I love OLAY & when I did a recent research paper on products tested on animals, they came up as a company that still tests & researches on animals. So sad.

I used to love their products.

So many of my favorite products are. Olay, Neutrogena, etc. I nearly keeled over. I have to start finding alternatives.

I don't know when or how you conducted your research but from just a google search, Proctor and Gamble which owns Oil of Olay has stopped animal testing since 1999.

The PETA website. It lists the companies that do, don't & have called a moratorium on testing temporarily. The website is update all the time & they have videos & pics of what the individual companies do all the time.

I'm fully aware of the work that PETA(People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) does as I was a member for several years.

I went to the website and saw nothing specific about any testing regarding Oil of Olay or skincare products presently. It doesn't discount what was done in the past but changes have been made.

Interesting to note that PETA is also a shareholder of Proctor and Gamble.

Yes, this is not a "debate animal testing" thread - it's a "don't waste your $$ on this bogus product" thread.

Don't waste your $$$ on the Ponds fake cucumber things to take away eye puffiness - they are cute, but no lasting effects.

I've been fooled before by products that smell great but sadly, I saw no reduction in fine lines, no shrinking of puffiness, and my skin does not look 10 years younger.

Animal testing

According to NAVS, Proctor & Gamble still tests on animals. I've never heard of them stopping animal testing.

Anyway, thanks to BetteDavisEyes for mentioning it. I think whether a company tests on animals is always relevant when discussing the merits of its products.

Hijack....

Did anyone see the Dateline special last night on the expensive department store moisturizers?
They tested SK-II and one other that I can't remember the name of (but they do a "DNA test" to determine which moisturizer is best for you).
These things cost $1,000 for a small thing of moisturizing cream.
The Dateline staff member tried each of these on her face and had a Dermatologist review the results. The SK-II did nothing and the other kind did only a little bit of improving.
Another problem was that these companies list their ingredients in a code and claim that they get their ingredients from these mystical places. A chemist confirmed that it's all a bunch of BS and that the department store brands aren't any better than the drug store brands.
What does everyone think of that?

I'm not surprised. I used to work in a department store & I heard the things the ladies behind the make-up counters were told to say to the customers. A bunch of crap like the cream kills fat in the face to make a face look younger & slimmer. I couldn't believe how many gullible women actually fell for the lies.

I'll stick to the stuff I buy at Target thank you.
Unfortunately, I recently learned that my favorite AVEENO facewash is also tested on animals.

Time to find another one.

That's why I use Clinique's moisturizer. It's not too pricey ($22) and Clinique does not test on animals.
