Post George Bush pleaded guilty ...

I was wondering what your thoughts were on the latest news to break on the presidential election circuit. The news is that George W. Bush has pleaded guilty to a DUI in 1976. Understand that a DUI is different from a DWI. A DUI is driving under the influence (that influence could be drugs AND/OR alcohol) and a DWI is driving while intoxicated. Keep in mind that the man has had an admitted drug addiction problem as well as an admitted drinking problem. Does it bother anyone else that no one is bringing this up? And why are they hiding so much? I mean this man could possibly be running the most powerful country in the world (not if I can help it). What happens when things become too stressful how will he handle these situations? Bush says that he didn't disclose this b/c it was private and he didn't want his daughters to know b/c he has raised them not to drink and drive. Now if this is private President Clinton's "issues" should have been private.

I could go on all day about why I could NEVER vote for this man. I just would like to know everyone elses opinion or thoughts on the matter.

PLEASE VOTE

Hi Ladies,

I would not vote for Bush anyway but I don't care. Bill Clinton smoke some weed. George Bush had A DUI. These things happened along time ago. My concern is what do they do now. What about education, affirmative action, poulution, that is why I am casting my vote on Nov. 7 for Al Gore. He maynot be perfect but he represents more of what I support than Bush does.

Heed Jesse Jackson's advice..America stay out of the Bushes!

I heard about this on last nights news, as well as information about the drug and alcohol addictions. Yes, they are hiding issues, regarding Bush, probably to avoid the possibility of a loss of votes, and hurting his campaign. One thing is for sure, they will not have to worry about a vote from myself. GORE!! GORE!! GORE!! GORE!!

What's this?? This is my first time hearing of this. I worked all day yesterday and then went to class, so I have not seen any news.

Of course, we have a past we'd like to hide and I'm feeling you on the private issue, Soror. Now, with Clinton his problem was bedroom business that didn't affect anyone except Hillary and Monica until he went on trial. But Bush's problem is public record.

If he is such "the candidate for the job", why didn't he just tell us from the beginning. Not that he would have gotten my vote, but it just looks like he's trying to hide something. His kids are grown now and I'm sure they now know the dangers of drinking and driving.

I wondered when campaign 2000 would start seeing some action.

I think this whole 'the public has a right to know' movement is going to get us on a very slippery slope. Bush (and I am NOT a fan!) has given limited information about his past alcohol problems and that is really good enough for me. Plus this incident was 20 plus years ago! Negotiator, I beg to differ about no one bringing it up. For what ever reason no one knew about it until this week. The media hsn't been able to get enough of it since then. I heard a reporter ask Bush how many beers he had that night! Give me a break! How many of you remember how many drinks you had (not to say anyone was drunk) at homecoming last year? At what point is our past truly our past? Plus, is seems that only the wealthy (those who can afford to add a million dollars or more to their campaign chest) can run for local and state wide races. At the rate we are going, a person would have to be a millionaire saint to get elected president.

Question: Who would AND why would (someone) actually VOLUNTEER something like that?

Do you go to interview froma bank and tell them you stole cookies from a cookie jar 20 years ago? No - its irrelevant now cause you know better.

24 years people, 24 years.....let it go. lol
Just had to put my little say so in it.

I haven't been following everything that has been going on in the course of this election, so I am not 100% sure so someone please feel free to enlighten me, but wasn't part of George Bush's slogan to bring integrity back to the White House? If so, then no matter when these incidents occurred I think that he should have told everything, I mean if honesty is a part of your slogan then be about that! George Bush should live up to the same standards of life that everone else has to live up to.

I see the argument of "It was so long ago and shouldn't matter," but to me, they are applying for one of the most powerful jobs in the world, not for some job at the 7-11. So I think credentials and credibility should be observed more closely.

Just like when you apply at a job and the question asks were you convicted of any crimes? Of course, it says it won't keep you from getting the job, but we all know it doesn't put you at the top of the list for the job either.
