Post The Coldest Winter Ever

I stayed up until quarter to 2 this morning reading that book! It was great. MamaBuddha, I saw on your BP page that you read it. What'd you think? I think it was a great story, especially since it's Sister Souljah's first novel. Has anyone else read it? What do you guys think of the story. It made me THINK. And hey, did you pick up on the AKA sorority call? What was that all about?

I think it would make an excellent movie.
Delroy Lindo would make a great Santiaga
Mekhi Pfeifer should play Midnight

I am loving this book.

I have also read that book. I thought that it was pretty good. I noticed the blatant display of irritation at a certain sorority call You should read her other book "no Disrespect". It is soooooo good. I finished it in a matter of hours.

Hello all
i read this book and january and it left me chilled to the bone it was so good.

This book is scheduled to become a movie through the efforts of sistah souljah and jada pinkett. I agree on the Mekhi Phifer selection.

I recommend this to a lot of my students and they all come back in love with.

I am actally reading it for the second time. This book was great. I recommend it to everyone. But don't you think the movie will take away from a beautiful nove... We all know what happened to How Stella Got Her Groove Back. It just really took away from the story. Just though that I'd throw that in....

oh definitely, there is always something on the big screen that is left out. Look at all of John Grisham's books when they become movies, they cut out people, conflicts, etc. However, as a teacher, i always tell my students that THE BOOK IS ALWAYS BETTER.

Think of it like this, the movie reaches an audience that might never read the book. The movie sometimes sparks further interest to actually pick up the book and see what else happened.

I started to read this last winter, and I never stopped... not even for food! I was totally entranced. There was too much power for this not to pique the interest of the movies.

I LOVED this book!!!!! I read it in like 2 days. I did pick up on the AKA call (when they were going to the rapper's "house"), but I didn't appreciate the reference- for obvious reasons.

I too heard that Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith bought the rights to make it into a movie. I can totally see Lisa Nicole Carson (from alley McBeal) playing Winter. But she may be too old. If that is the case, I wouldn't mind the part... to help Will out of a sticky situation of course. But I am interested in how the movie will be made. Will Winter be a narrator like in the book, or will the story be told in 3rd person, I wonder.

P.S. Am I the only one that was upset Winter didn't get Midnight-- or should I say Bilal?

I was surprised that they didn't get together, but I wasn't mad. She was way too shallow for him. It was great.

The only problem I have with Aaliyah playing Winter (aside from the fact she can't act) is that physically she doesn't fit the part.
But I'm thinking Micheal DeLorenzo would be a purrrrfect Santiaga.

I thought this book was excellent! I wanted to pace myself so that i would not read the whole thing in a day like usual but i could not help myslef. I think that as far as a movie is concerned, somone new whom we have not seen yet should play the part.

Hi, I was thinking of Aaliyah (Romeo Must Die). I am thinking of her based on that role. Who ever they go with should be young nad have some versatility.

If anything Lisa Nicole Carson could play Winter's mom or Sistah Souljah (if S S chooses not to be in the movie).

I am sure we will get a lot of undiscovereds in this movie.

Carebear,
I am just starting Tribulation Force, book 2 of the Left Behind Series, and I must say they are great!! They definately make me think! I even pulled my Bible out on several occasions to cross reference stuff!! Wasn't that scene with Nicholae 'anointing' (for lack of a better word) his staff and what happened immediately after the scariest thing you have ever read!! Have you heard that they are in production for a movie right now?

Yes Left Behind is currently in the making of a movie (Praise God!). You can visit http://www.cloudtenpictures.com for more information.

Girl I can feel you on the cross-referencing...I've started an in-depth study on the things that are to come...using every resource possible...getting different views and seeing where people stand.

This book series is awesome and I encourage EVERYONE to get it.
