Greetings from Elon Colony

Hi ladies! A group of us at Elon started venturing towards an SAI charter in spring of 2003. We made some great progress as of Fall 2003, but then the group lost total interest in it and we might not have a chapter here at all . I wish I can somehow revive it, but I'll be a senior next year, and a colony has to have 15 girls who aren't classified as seniors. Any suggestions?

Hey girl! It's always exciting to talk to someone interested in what we have to offer. Let me ask you a few questions:

1)Why do you feel the need for an SAI chapter on your campus? What is it that drew you to SAI?

2)what other music fraternities/sororities are there?

3)How big is your music department?

4)What made your interest group lose interest?

Think about those things and let me know.

I think the #1 thing in recruiting is ENTHUSIASM. If you're excited about the prospect of having SAI there, other people will too.

And personal contact is also VERY VERY important. Posting flyers about your interest group are good , but if you talk to girls one on one about what you're doing and why, they'll be more likely to be interested. If you can, come up with a list of eligible girls. If you have Tau Beta Sigma, remember that you CAN be in both TBS and SAI so you can ask them.

Maybe you could make up some nice pamphlets about SAI, who we are, etc to hand out.

Since it's almost the beginning of the school year...plan an interest meeting. Is there anyone else from your interest group still into it? If so they can help. Announce it in band, choir, etc and offer some free food. Our Phi Mu Alpha chapter just got rechartered 2 years ago, and that's exactly how they got guys interested: they talked up PMA all the time and announced it at the end of every rehearsal. Make sure to tell girls that the interest meeting is NOT a committment; it's an informational session. People are more likely to come if they know it's just to learn more and not to committ.

I hope some of this helps at least a little. I look forward to talking to you more about this!
