Girl Stabbed At DKE House
http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/Con...=1088115012318
Glad to know she's going to be ok, but I didn't know that fraternity houses rented rooms to women during the summer.

She was living in the DKE house, but DKE had nothing to do with the incident. Will a mod consider changing this thread's title, as it suggests DKE involvement?

Re: Girl Stabbed At DKE House
Hope she has a speedy recovery.
In answer to your question, it is quite common (at least at my school) for fraternities to rent out space in their houses over the summer. Some will only rent to brothers and women, others will rent to men not affiliated with the fraternity.
I know a girl who rented space at her boyfriend's fraternity house one summer... conveniently, it was the vacant half of his double that she rented

As of yet we don't know if DKE's were involved... however that being said I can't say I shocked really. However I'm sure more details will come to light... as the victim works for the largest newspaper in Canada...

They said the suspect was a 32-yeard old man who had perviosly been knowns to send love letters to new neighbours.
How long had he been living at the house? Or was he living in another house near the DKE house?

Is tort law in Canada as messed up as it is in the US?
If they were renting a room to someone like that with known issues in the US, it wouldn't surprise me one bit to have someone sue them since they have the money.

Quite a few fraternities do at Iowa State as well. I lived in one house the summer after my freshman year and another the summer after my junior year. It's cheap, close to campus for those taking classes and usually a lot of fun! There was something going on almost every night during the summer.

As of yet the DKE's haven't said anything, which is of course the right action in this case, and the alumni I know either won't say anything... or as most have said they don't know either because they haven't been told anything either...
In the past there has been some "questionable" characters that are brothers at this chapter, but the main problem hasn't come from brothers, but from friends... I do know that there have been a number of investigations and allegations made in the past six of so years, but in all cases no charges have been laid. I'd be very interested to know the identity of the attacker, and what his conections to the chapter are....
But yes it is pretty common practice at UofT to rent rooms out to boarders over the summer, and it's about the only thing that UofT gets involved in... most of these boarders are summer exchange students, and are sent by Housing Services at UofT.
As for legal issues... it can be exceedingly convulted:
1) The chapter might be held responsible if the history of the attacker was known to the chapter... as for whether the actives or housing board is ultimately responsible.....
2) The Housing manager (or whomever handles room rental) might be the one responsible if the attacker's past actions was know to him.
3) The Attacker could be solely responsible as he was an individual, and not the responsibilty of the chapter or it's members... as no action was taken against them.

Perhaps you should stop talking about all these brothers you don't like at other fraternities at your school. It might very well be some messed up Lambda Chi Alpha alum who decided to live there and do it.

I'm a little worried that we aren't going to get as many girls during recruitment because of what happened at DKE. The girls might have read it and then worry that it might happen to them too. This as well as the fact that recruitment week two weeks earlier than usual this year (because of how the Jewish holidays fall). With recruitment scheduled early, we won't be targeting as many girls as normal--the older students might not be on campus at that time.

Might do well to heed your own words! Do you go to that school and have any idea enough to respond?
Just a question, how do you make the decision of whom knows whom?
If nothing to post of revelance, dont post and look like a retardo!
Oh, well, that was a rhetorical question!

It's very possible that a LXA alum did this.

I didn't say they did this. I said it's a possibility. Are you from the English-impaired part of Canada?
Anyway, whatever. I don't care. What I do care about is you making comments about other fraternities. I'm not in DKE and I'm offended by it.
