TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida State authorities are searching for a pair of $30,000 Waterford crystal footballs symbolizing the school's national championships in 1993 and 1999 that were stolen last weekend.
The trophies, awarded by Sears for winning the final coaches poll, were housed in a locked wooden-and-glass case outside coach Bobby Bowden's offices.
There are no surveillance cameras in that area and the trophies were not insured, athletic director David Hart Jr. said.
Hart called the theft senseless.
"What do you do with those?" he asked.
The 1993 team finished 12-1, beating Nebraska in the Orange Bowl. The 1999 team went 12-0, defeating Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl.
