Philanthropies

Hey girls I know I posted this on another thread but I thought if anyone else was looking for some philanthropy ideas, the one my chapter does always raises tons of money.

The Indiana Zeta's do a weeklong event called Arrowgames. All the fraternities participate in basketball, karaoke, volleyball, etc. We also do pennywars, Arrowgames king, a banner contest, and have a local DJ come to a couple of the events. The guys pay a small fee for each event they enter and other students on campus can come watch for a small fee. We do a date auction on the first night of the week. Pi Phi's go up for auction to different fraternity boys for various things. For example, my new member class (spring 04!!) was bought for I think $16 by SigEp for us to wash their cars for them one day. We also have dress up your coaches night, in which every fraternity dresses up their Arrowgames coach. We have letter violation night to see which fraternity can put their letters on their coach the most. We start the week by cooking the fraternities dinner to get them excited for the week. Before each event every night, about 5-6 girls go to each fraternity to get them excited too. We give out trophies to winners and also go around and do serenades. (We almost always get serenaded back). We also give points for fraternity members wearing our letters. We also wear our letters all week. It's a great week! SOOOO much fun. Most of the pics on our recruitment video are from Arrowgames. We always have a lot of participation. (SipEp STRONGLY encourages their new members to participate in every event for theweek.) We always raise a lot of money and its a great way to get our name out on campus.

Just curious... to whom does all this $$$ go?

Local charity or Pi Phi philanthropies? Just a little commercial here since I've been to Arrowmont and have a special love for it. It is supported ONLY by Pi PHi... no corporate sponsorships, no one else raises money for it. No other NPC group owns and operates their philanthropy without additional support from SOMEONE. It is truly unique and often misunderstood but if you've ever been there, you'd be proud too.

Last week, I was admiring the woodwork done by the roommate of one of my coworkers. I casually asked her if she'd ever taken a class at Arrowmont. She looked at me funny, as if curious how I knew about an art school in Tennessee but said "yes". I said, I'm a Pi Phi, I've been there. She gave me a hug and thanked me. Her knowledge of what a sorority was is based upon our philanthropic work building and operating a world-class art school....

OK-- I'm on a roll and promise to keep off the soapbox for a while.

Sorry to crash your board, but I'm a PNM and we have a Pi Phi chapter at my campus so I was doing a little research about it.

dakareng, your explanation made me really appreciate the role of Arrowmont. I never realized the strength of Pi Phi's philanthrophy, which is made possible by it being a single institution (instead of chapters everywhere). I had always had the misconception that because Arrowmont is only in Tennessee, less people benefit than would if there were chapters of it all over the country, like most philanthropies tend to be. However, I definitely respect the work of Pi Phis all over the country towards their philanthropy and I really appreciate your explanation. I think it would be an amazing thing for chapters to explain during philanthropy night (which they may actually do since I have no experience with rush yet).

Anyway, keep up the good work! I'm sure you don't get told enough how grateful people are for everything you do!

P.S. I may be taking a trip to Gatlinburg next month (while I'm still at home in KY) so I'll definitely think of Pi Phi while I'm there!

we do a thing called Blizzard Bash/Pi Phi Players club. We have a three on three bball tournament then we rent out a casino/dance club, people pay to get in and gamble w/faux money. They then cash in their faux money for raffel tickets and win tons of prizes that have been donated. It's lots of fun but we had a hard time trying to get it together this year. We'll make up for it next time!

pi phi love,

Wink Pie a Pi Phi

We've done this for a few years now....$1 per pie and the lucky customer can choose amongst the volunteering sisters....Here we see one of my sisters getting nailed in the face
We usually rake in a lot of money from this, considering we only have about 40 some members...
