On a serious note, it does speak to something terribly wrong if a crack cocaine addict can keep resurrecting himself. I know that America is ostensibly a forgiving nation. But there's just something about MB that has me SMH.

There is a berry in Oregon named the Marion berry, which is actually a variety of a blackberry. It is often made into pies. My father always called it "Crack Smoking Mayor Pie".

See, you can tell y'all don't live here and have never had a conversation about this man with a native Washingtonian. THEY LOVE HIM HERE!!! Now, when I read articles and the like, he did do a lot of good while he was in office, crackhead or not, and that's what they like. And THAT'S why they will KEEP voting his smokin' arse into some type of office. The current mayor SUCKS hot donkey butt. They had some lady in city council, the first woman, and I heard she jacked it up so bad, people are saying they'll never vote another woman in council in that district. Allow me to tell y'all, the politics here are MOST confusing. Parents who otherwise seem ignorant and ghetto can talk politics like a poli sci professor, for real. It's the most amazing thing. I will NEVER register to vote down here. I can't get with the ridiculousness.

Thank you, Soror. No, I don't live in D.C., I've only visited. That does explain MB's mysterious appeal somewhat.

Although he is my chapter Brother, I think I can be objective as a native Washingtonian.

Marion Barry was not a good administrator -- that is the reason why the city is in the poor shape that its in now. However, he was an excellent friend to the people and delivered services to the youth and the elderly. The elderly in DC have traditionally voted in large numbers, especially in the more impoverished areas, like Ward 8.

The DC schools were high achieving the the 80's when Barry was mayor...why? I don't know. We had several Blue Ribbon schools and lots of programs for students, like study abroad and minimal cost to students.

I think that reality just caught up with the city. Had Barry been a smarter administrator and less of a friend/crony, we would be in better shape.

But I can't be mad at his supporters....he's the only politician in this town who has actually delivered his promises to poor people.

If you were impoverished, this would be your primary concern.

My first minor intro to DC folks and their love of Barry came from watching Chris Rock's special. He made a remark about Barry and was boo'd.

Shut up, because I am pretty sure they sell it at your place of employment!!! You know how much they like to sell local Northwest products up in there. I know Safeway sells it, you can bring some home and share.
