Pledged
Has anyone read the book Pledged or at least skimmed through it? I read through parts of it and I couldn't believe what I was reading.

The book is about all the "horrible" things that go on in sorority life. I just read part of it and it made me sad that others are going to read it and get the wrong impression.
Hello... what about the thousands of dollars that we donate to Philantrophy's?

^ yeah from what i read, it seems like the school the author chose was a big greek campus....and basically the "sororities" in the book fit the basic stereotype people have about us, which sucks

I was one of the first people I know who bought the book. I read it off and on for about a month and I couldn't really get into it. It seemed Ms. Robbins wanted to "beef" up the story, honestly, it seemed more fictional than fact. True, she intersperses the storyline with "non-fictional" accounts, however you definetly saw her "shock factor" angle throughout. I don't know how any person (Greek or Non Greek) could take her book word for word. Her sweeping generalizations and easy-to-jump to conclusions just furthered my opinion that she went into this "investigation" with blatant bias and tainted objectivity. Reading this books was one of the first times I felt I had to be defensive not just as an A-Phi but as a member of the Greek community.
Anyways I'm starting to ramble, if anyone wants to chat more about this lemme know!

I went to a sister's birthday party this past wknd and one sister brought the book.
But I'm over it and I'm not going to buy it. That woman does not need any more money in her pocket.

I tivo "The View" yesterday and watched it when i got home from work and she was on the show promoting her so called book......
Barbara Walters dislikes greek life very much.....BUT Star Jones put Robbins in her place about sororities, be it black or white orgs, and Elizabeth had this relieved look on her face when she said her college had no greek life. The other two, Meridith and Joy, were both kinda nutural during the interview.
I have not read it and have no plans to do so but i figure if someone has an overwhelming desire to read it then don't buy it and boost her sales.... go to the library and check it out.

my whole thing is, if you're going to write an expose, you need to just come out and say: look this is where i did it, this is who i interviewed, this is where i got the info, and this is what i did to get the info. she plays this cat and mouse game and i honestly believe that at least one of the "girls" she befriends in the book is NOT real

Hi ladies,
I have edited some of the posts in this thread at the request of Alpha Phi International. Please remember that ritual is not an appropriate topic for Greekchat, which is a public forum. Whether you believe you are confirming or denying rumors, you are still discussing ritual.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to PM me.
AOE,
bruinaphi

As I was getting my nails done recently, I illegally parked in the B&N parking garage, so to make it seem like i was a customer I leafed through "Pledged"...
I only skimmed through the book, and took a closer look at all her references. I felt kind of stupid for her having gotten some info from Greekchat, but I was mostly appalled by the 'suggestions' she put in the back for people to help strengthen the greek system. It was kind of like, "ok Robbins, duh...we know we have these problems and issues, we're working on it, get off our backs." Did anyone else feel the same way?
Sorry to bring up a kind of old topic...
ETA: I didn't see anything about Alpha Phi specifically by name...were we mentioned or was it something that sounded like it could be in ref. to A Phi?
