Any Vegans out there?

Any vegetarians out there? If so, I think it would be interesting to hear your viewpoints on why you don't eat meat. Also, a cool site is www.peta-sucks.com

Comments?

Just a definition or two to help you out

Vegetarian - Simply someone who makes it a practice to not eat fish, flesh or fowl (although there are different levels; for example, people who avoid meat but eat fish)

Ovo-lacto vegetarian - Similar to vegans but they will eat dairy and eggs.
Lacto vegetarian - The same as ovo-lacto vegetarians except that they will eat eggs.
Vegan - Someone who eats no animal products whatsoever, including dairy and eggs and usually including honey. They will often not wear animal products either, such as shoes made from leather.

As for your statment of "twisted viewpoints", many Hindus, Bhuddists, and 7th Day Adventists must be really twisted to follow their religious tenets and beliefs. A lot of world religions and cultures have rules and practices regarding food, which doesn't make them "twisted".

I may eat meat and meat substitutes regularly, but it isn't my place to judge the choices of others. It isn't hurting me any if they eat Tofurkey.

Maybe if you asked the question in a more respectful manner, someone would take the time to give you an answer.

Since when is it twisted not to eat meat? I do eat meat, but I understand why people won't, either for personal or religious reasons. Just because someone isn't identical to you in every respect does not make them twisted, stupid, or wrong. Just different. Are you so insecure that you can do nothing but attempt (poorly) to cut down the beliefs and actions of others?
You have much growing up to do, grasshopper.

Much like I feel with religon, don't try to push your opinions on me and try to convert me and we'll be just fine.

Since I went to a performing arts school full of weirdos, we had a bunch of militant vegans who pushed to have a FULL veggie menu.

Which leads me to MY opinion:

If you feel that you don't want to consumer anything animal-like fine (BTW, the "you're eating God's creation" is crap), but don't take away from my right to eat a full thick t-bone and wash it down with some ribs and pork chops.....

We're gonna grill some kabobs at the beach...later!

Not everyone who is a vegetarian/vegan is so because they feel it's cruel to eat animals. Some do it for health reasons, others do it for religious reasons, others simply don't like meat.

Yes there are some people that are extremists. But that's not everybody. I don't understand why that is such a difficult concept to understand?!

I REALLY hope the Peta reps quoted on that site REALLY didn't say those things.

"Even if animal tests produced a cure for AIDS, we’d be against it."

wow......

"The life of an ant and that of my child should be granted equal consideration."
-Michael W. Fox, Vice President, The Human Society of the United States, The Inhumane Society, New York, 1990.

LMAO

Regan when asked which he would save, a dog or a baby, if a boat capsized in the ocean: "If it were a retarded baby and a bright dog, I'd save the dog."
-Tom Regan, Q&A session following a speech, University of Wisconsin-Madison, October 27, 1989.

WTF...

"To those people who say, `My father is alive because of animal experimentation,' I say `Yeah, well, good for you. This dog died so your father could live.' Sorry, but I am just not behind that kind of trade off."
- Bill Maher, PETA celebrity spokesman

I'm glad they cancelled PI....

WHAT THE..........

"Six million Jews died in concentration camps, but six billion broiler chickens will die this year in slaughter houses."

-Ingrid Newkirk, President, PETA, The Washington Post, November 13, 1983.

I'm guessing most of these are fake....but I mean....you never know...

Yeah, much of the stuff on there is actually quite sick. When I was vegetarian (I was 10 or so at the time), I assure you I wasn't a fan of PETA. I find them a bit militant for my tastes. Just as most carnivores don't like PETA shoving their views down their throats, neither do vegetarians/vegans appreciate the rest of us ridiculing them.

Yes, I realize now that it was wrong of me to write "twisted viewpoints," so I edited it out. I was more of thinking out loud, and while I may find the viewpoints bizarre, I shouldn't have worded it that way. Sorry if I offended anyone with that based on their religion, etc. I was really more of talking about the twisted viewpoints of PETA, just worded entirely wrong.

p.s. PETA still sucks

Maybe I can work a deal with the vegetarians. They can have all the vegetables I don't want. Just don't take my corn and taters.

Question

Dont potatoes have eyes, Corn have ears, artichokes have hearts?

Eating is not just a way of life, it is a neccesaity.

Eat dont eat, the individual makes the decission.
