The End Of The Road For Phish
Quote:
Phish breaking up
NEW YORK (AP) -- Phish, the Vermont-based jam band whose legions of dedicated fans made them one of the United States' top touring acts, announced Tuesday that they were breaking up.
The surprise announcement came as the band prepared to release a new album, "Undermind," on June 15 and embark on a summer tour, which will kick off June 17 at Coney Island in Brooklyn, a borough of New York City.
Band leader Trey Anastasio made the announcement on the band's Web site.

My first show was during my freshman year in 1994. It was during the height of their playing. The post-hiutus (sp?) shows has not been their greatest. I had a feeling that it was comming. It been a great 10 years for me personally. Thanks for the memories guys.
ETA:
First show for me:
11-04-94 Onondaga War Memorial Auditorium, Syracuse, NY
1: Sample in a Jar-> It's Ice-> Bouncing Around the Room, David Bowie, Colonel Forbin's Ascent-> Famous Mockingbird, Scent of A Mule, Suzy Greenberg-> Chalk Dust Torture
2: The Curtain-> Mike's Song-> Simple-> Mike's Song-> Tela-> Weekapaug Groove, Ya Mar, Golgi Apparatus-> Slave to the Traffic Light
E: Loving Cup-> Rocky Top
The last time I saw them:
10-10-99 Pepsi Arena, Albany, NY
1: Farmhouse, Gotta Jiboo, Heavy Things, First Tube, Dirt, Vultures, Stash* (1:10)
2: Jam > You Enjoy Myself** -> Prince Caspian** -> Train Song, Bathtub Gin, Character Zero# (1:07)
E: Contact, Misty Mountain Hop (0:14)
*Ended abruptly. **Unfinished. #Trey thanked family, crew, and fans.

Very sad... but I don't know if I really believe it. They've been on hiatus before - maybe they will get back together. If not, they will live on in my mind each time I listen to "Fee."

What is going to happen to all the people who follow them around?
Who will replace Phish in that respect?

Aw, man. My cousin used to follow this band everywhere and sell beer and sandwiches out of the back of his car.

I believe String Cheese Incident and moe. will probably receive some of the phans. I doubt any of them will get as big though. A couple newer band has the potential to blow up. Like Umphree McGees (sp?).

I personally think Robert Randolph & the Family band has an excellent show...very different from Phish but I ahve seen them a few times and I know people who already go to a lot of their shows.
Oh and AchtungBaby---I hear ya!! If you only knew how many of my friends did that!!! LOL!

I was also thinking String Cheese Incident as well.
Wherever the last Phish show is, the population will swell afterwards for awhile I hope the local mechanics have enough parts for all the VW buses that may need repairs, and that the local health food/co-op market has enough stock on hand. I won't even mention the other "retailers" that may want to have enough "product" to go around. What if there isn't enough Rit Dye for tie-dying?

That would be coventry, vermont. They will end their career at the same state they started it. the 70,000 plus tix is expected to sell out very soon.
