This seems to be from the "good" branch of the Bin Ladin family...you know, the ones who send their kids to summer programs at Ivy League schools, and give lots of money to Harvard GSD and MIT (both schools had "Bin Ladin Fellowships," until recently). They are well-regarded in worldwide architecture and engineering circles.

But, building the world's largest skyscraper just smacks of inappropriate irony.

If you read the article, it says that the Bin Laden family disowned Osama in 94. Unfortunately for them, he still bears their name and their name is therefore associated w/ the atrocities he commits.
However, it still is ironic that they're paying for this structure when there is definitely a more appropriate place.

Actually, I believe Swissmiss is correct.

It is not fair to blame an entire family for the sins of one son. If a child you might have becomes a serial killer, do you want to be blamed?

This has been a highly philanthropic family that has done a lot of good in our country for many years.

That's terrible!...but it's funny.

I am wondering why this story has not made any of the major news stations here. When I "googled" it the story only showed up on sources I am unfamiliar with.

Someone associated w/ the Bin Laden group, according to the article. They are controlling every aspect of it (design, engineering, construction, financial support, etc).
