random AI question

I know this is kind of random (and probably stupid) but I was wondering...
Do AI get big sisters? If so, how do they choose them..and if not, do you think they should?

good question. All the AI's I have been involved with *do* get a Big Sister. The "Big" is intimately involved with the newmember education process and initiation so you do need someone .

I think it is a great idea.

(hoping to be a big again REAL soon!)

In AOII, all of the AI's with which I have been involved had a "Big" although not really formally called as such.

Question

Would they be more likely to be Sponsors than Bigs?

I am sure there would be someone to stand with them.

If and when we Initiate someone, there is a Brother who stands or sits with them to help guide them along with the understanding during Ritual.

Would it depend on where they were Initiated at, and be sort of Part of a Family Tree like being an Aunt?

Just kidding on the last part, but would be interesting to know.

I don't know what the standard term is for AGD AIs (maybe Taualumna can elaborate), but I wouldn't be surprised if our terms "sister-mother/sister-daughter" applied to our AIs too.

I remember at the Atlanta Convention in 2001, there were two AIs with lovely "sister-mom" stories.

One was a mother of two Alpha Gams. Her two daughters both served as her sister-mom.

The other one was a pledge back in the 60s or 70s I believe, but she had to depledge for personal reasons. She came back to AGD as a Convention initiate, and her original sister-mom from her college days stood by her and gave her her Badge at Initiation.

I met with someone to learn a bit about AGD, and she was also the one who sent in my information. However, I don't recall her telling me that I was her sis-dot.

I don't know if everyone does this the same way, but I am currently sponsoring my best friend to become an AI and we've both referred to our future DZ relationship as big/lil. So while everyone might not do it that way, I'll consider her one of my lil sisters!
