Exclamation Pledged By Alexandra Robins

Hello all if you aren't already aware there is a new book out called Pledged the Secret Life of Sororities by Alexandra Robins. This has been a very popular book I believe it may even be on the best seller list so even though I hate to contribute to her wealth by purchasing the book I think that every chapter should read it to prepare for any questions that might be asked during Fall Recruitment. Luckily none of Phi Sig's ritual stuff was mentioned but we are mentioned in the book a few times with the reference to "Phi Piggy Piggy" etc. but I believe it's Chi Omega and Alpha Phi's rituals that were published in the book. Apparently the author went undercover and posed as alum or something to gain this information. I just wanted to make everyone aware!

LITP,
Ana

actually... Phi Sig is mentioned QUITE a few times in the book... she talks to some sisters that were members of NU chapter before it was re organized... and she did say *some* ritual stuff about Phi Sig but it was wrong. The ritual stuff revealed about the other orgs wasn't even that big of a deal it's not like she got a hold of the book and just re published it or anything... but it basically just says every sterotype you've ever heard is true... and we already should know how to battle these in rush.. so don't worry about it too much

I didn't think it was wrong - just it wasn't part of ritual but I guess she doesn't know the difference

I read it, and it was ok, but I couldn't relate whatsoever to it since my experience wasn't even close to that of the women she followed.

I passed it on to my sister and then I will have the risk management/health and wellness chair read it (if she wants to)

just read the Alexandra Robbins books

I just read the Alexandra Robbins' book Pledged. Pledged Phi Sig was mentioned a number of times and some things that were said did not seem accurate.

Yeah, I didn't think the book was that bad, really, and I did learn a lot, it was neat to see how recruitment is different at other campuses.

I just wish she had picked a more diverse group of girls to follow, we're not all into drugs (I've never done an illegal drug in my life) or getting all the ass we can. But hey, there are chapters out there like that. What can we do?

The stuff about our sorority made me laugh, she couldn't even get our symbols right!

Oh well... like I said, I did learn stuff!

I can't believe she's still promoting it too - she was on The view a couple weeks ago...

She always says she doesn not want to generealize - but that's pretty much all she is doing....

Fortunately, I doubt the book will affect us much where I live....

what's funny is i thought the phi piggy piggy thing was my own chapter nick since at one time we did have a lot of larger women (since we're not superficial snobs) but with a little bit of ingenuitity our new nickname is phi hottie hottie.

We were once called Phi Piggie Piggie on my campus also. Thankfully, the nickname disappeared around the time I joined.

I hate that Phi Piggy Piggy thing. My chapter used to have some larger girls, and it was used on our chapter. However most have graduated and our chapter is "smaller," but yet at Greek Sing (where the frats tease the sororities and the sororities tease the frats [in good fun]) that "joke" is still used. ENOUGH ALREADY. ugh. I find it very insulting...

lemme knock on wood, but no one has ever said that at our chapter.

i mean, i've heard other sisters talk about it... but no one has said that to us.

we get the "weekend warriors" as our nickname instead.

(it's hard being the only npc at a school that is primarily nphc and lglo's... no one understands our recruitment period rules)

when we played powder puff we oinked and pissed the other sorority off (but we beat them lol).. we also have a chant that goes like ..were phi piggy piggy... (thats all im gonna write just to be just with the boards)...

i think its cool that were a bunch of girls who can take a joke..not everyone can do that. and to be honest when i entered as a freshman i was like oh no but then i got to know my sisters and i was glad to be a freakin piggy .

whats funny about it all, is that theres no 500lbers in my house..we all look good and people try to insult us by sayin that were like huge and we laugh in their face..its all good in the hood

ps..now were kinda referred to as either phi lushy lushy or phi sexy sexy

See I am curious about the nicknames of other sororites... that didn't go over well in the main forum. But the Phi Piggies... we are sometimes called that... but it was funny because one of the girls in my class asked a Zeeb about it... and she was all freaked out. He had no clue what she was talking about so he asked another sister and she punched him. Poor guy!!! I later explained and he thought it was a cute nickname (but he knows better than to use it arund a sister again).

Yeah the book upset me. But I was thinking that it is possible that it may be true in bigger schools. Our Greek community is relatively small ranging from 8-40 peple in each chapter. But even some is rediculous because it happens in normal college life as well.
