Social Ideas

Does anyone have any ideas of events that we could hold for "Zeta Week" or any other ideas that would could use to have social events and also promote the sorority. I think it would be a good idea to do this before we go through recruitment or would it be a good idea to have it after so that it would be a week long celebration of the new sisters. I am open to any ideas, I will also be serving on the Social Committee and I am also PR for the coming year and I am all about promoting the club. Thanks in advance.

hmm- well my first advice would be to do a search b/c there are a lot of pr ideas on here....

as far as other ideas... hmm... i was rush chair this past fall... and we did a lot of banners and hung them on the outside of the house (with rush information- and when the girls got in we put congrats etc on them) wearing letters- doing sisterhood dinners in your student center and having everyone wear letters...

have an open party- idk what your rules are on alcohol etc- but its probably been the best way to get our name out there- we started off small and now we have parties with like 300 people and they are teh talk of campus- we've gotten a lot of girls that way too (even boyfriends are like- wow my friend/girlfriend would lvoe it here- i'm going to bring her here blah blah) and we could also celebrate new girls getting in too- by singing them in- or having a party where the new girls invited everyone they knew so to celebrate- THEM getting in...

maybe you could hold a philanthropy/community service event- like we did a daffodil sale for the american cancer society- or d phi e does a twister-a- thon (and this past year they did a jump-a-thon on one of those big blowup jumpy things... but they did it in front of our student union- a lot of people saw them) or alpha phi does a teeter-totter event on their front lawn...

hm.... i don't know what you mean by zeta week- do you mean like a take off of greek week? b/c for that we'd do events with all the fraternities/ sororities- such as a lip synch one night- the greek olympics with silly games antoher... etc

i'mkind of out of ideas at the moment... but if i think of more- i'll let you know i hope some of that helped

As a community service/helping take care of campus sort of event, you could check with the school for help that needs to be done for the school-at-large and organize the chapter to do it (whether it's helping to plant flowers, do some painting upkeep, etc). Events like this might be a bit of a chore, but it also gives a great impression that you're a chapter that helps take care of the college as a whole.

Themed parties can be good choices, too-- our largest success was an 80's party (as outrageous as people wanted to be, clothing-wise). Great photos, lots of fun, great memories.

The key for social activities is organizing events that will help keep conversation going so that potential members can actually talk and meet with your active sisters. Movies nights and such are fun, but they're not really great for meeting folks since it's not exactly good behavior to talk over a movie-- unless you're watching Rocky Horror, of course.

Smaller, local charity drives also are great ideas as AlethiaSi mentioned-- participate in the Walk for Hunger (or similar) if your community has one. Talk to a local movie theater or popular restaurant for your college, purchase a gift certificate, and do a raffle/sale to raise money for a local organization in need-- a homeless shelter, or maybe an after-school program for needy kids.

Good PR for any GLO comes from being visible, being active, and being a group that blends fun and commitment together.
