It was twenty years ago...
Joyously to thee we raise, Alpha Sigma Phi
Songs of loyalty and praise which shall never die.
Thou our inspiration art; ne'er shall any heart
From thy Mystic Circle part, Alpha... Sigma... Phi!
Many are the friendships dear, made within thy halls,
Many mem'ries we revere clust'ring round thy walls.
Which tho far from thee we be, shall in loyalty
Closer bind our ties to thee, Alpha... Sigma... Phi!
April 20, 1984 was the night I took the vows that made me part of the Mystic Circle of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity. I was the 814th initiate of Alpha Alpha chapter at the University of Oklahoma. (The actual date was April 6th in the roster book, but a typo in the initiation authorization form had the initiation date as April 20. I just never bothered with getting the official date changed with National Headquarters.)
Come, let's gather once again
and sing a song with spirits bold and high
From our lips the praises proudly ring
of dear old Alpha Sigma Phi.
We'll pledge our hearts, our lives, our love
as in the happy days gone by;
Let the words that ever linger near,
be the name of dear old Alpha Sigma Phi!
Looking back at 20 years within the Mystic Circle I've seen my chapter close, reopen and close again, though I'm still close to quite a few brothers. I certainly hope I see the Phoenix rise again in Norman in the near future.
Now everyone knows Alpha Sigma Phi,
That they are the best just cannot be denied;
They have that style, that smile, that friendly way,
No matter where you'll go you'll recognize them,
and you'll say, "Now they're the Greeks I'd like to know
They've got that Alpha Sig fight, zip and go,
And just to see them smile is quite a treat,
Can't be beat, Alpha Sigma Phi!"

As a matter of fact...I did, too. With pink roses on.
That's cool, AlphaSigOU! Most Alpha Sigs I know haven't been so nice, but I think you're a good one. I hope I'm still as excited as you are in 20 years...well, 17 now!

Hell no... my pledge brothers and myself proceeded to get thoroughly drunk off our asses and stoned out of our minds! All the while being cheered on by our fraternity brothers:
Here's to brother Chuck, brother Chuck,
Here's to brother Chuck, who's with us tonight!
He's happy, he's jolly, he's horny, by golly!
Here's to brother Chuck, who's with us tonight!
So... Drink, mother f***er, drink, motherf***er, drink, motherf***er... (until the bottle's empty)!
Chugging down two bottles of the cheapest, nastiest California champagne in rapid succession definitely puts you away!
But then, that was Oooooold School fraternity life... things have definitely changed (for the better) in twenty years.
As my fraternity brother said to me when we had our rechartering weekend back in '97... 'oh to be eighteen and stupid again!'

Congratulations on 20 years in Alpha Sigma Phi! That's great. Wish they would colonize somewhere in Texas, or at least re-colonize at OU (do you believe I just said that????
All kidding aside, you are a wonderful model of a faithful fraternity member.
Lizz
