Ole Miss Rush
I am going to be a fish at Ole miss this upcoming fall and will be going through rush. I am so nervous because i hear its very cut throat and that a lot of girls end up not getting a bid!
Also a lot of my friends are Delta Gammas at other schools and say that the Ole Miss Dee Gee house is really strong and really awesome and they ALL want me to join that house...but i want to make sure i make the right choice for me!
I hope i make the right decision and dont make my friends mad if i dont go dee gee
also i was told like every sorority house in Mississippi has pledge classes of like 100...that seems like a lot!
is Ole miss as cut throat as people make it seem?

Yes. I'm sure our Ole Miss ladies can attest to this. I'm sure they wont mind giving you all the tips to prepare for it though

Rush is a mutual selection process. Simply because your friends at other schools are Delta Gammas does not mean you are assured a bid to DG or even that DG is the right sorority for you. It might not even be the group your friends would choose if they went to school there...chapters are different at every school even if they're not far apart geographically.
It would be nice to be in the same sorority a lot of your friends are in but their affiliation really has no bearing on your rush.

That's great that your friends are DG's, but make sure you make the best decision for YOU!! Your friends will understand. Old Miss is a very competitive campus, but don't let that discourage you. Get out there, have a smile on your face and try to enjoy recruitment...even if it's super stressful!

Read the threads 33girl posted above. They should answer your questions. Should you still have questions after reading through those, you can PM me.

From what I've read here on GC, yes, Ole Miss rush is very competitive. Makes me glad I went to school in the nice laid-back Northeast
Be sure to line up some letters of reference. Maybe one or two of your DG friends can write something for DG? (depending on DG's reference policy - some sororities require that these letters come from alums, but even if that's the case, having a letter from a collegian in addition probably won't hurt)
And keep your options open. There are a lot of great groups at Ole Miss.
Good luck! And be sure to start a rush thread - we're all addicted here

Here's a great thread about tips for PNMs at formal recruitment: http://forums.greekchat.com/gcforums...cruitment+tips
for more tips, search through this forum, or use the "search" option at the top right of the Greek Chat Site.
ETA: It looks like during their last recruitment, the sorority system was able to match 90% of the women going through with a sorority!

I went to Ole Miss and went through formal as a freshman and got cut from all first round but that was bc of my grades. Make sure you have recs for all of the soroties more than one if possible. Keep your grades up even though I know school is almost over and JUST BE YOURSELF!!!!!

Hi, I just graduated from Ole Miss and my advice to you is not to go into Rush thinking that you really want to join ABC sorority.
You may very well end up wanting to join DG, but going into rush with that mindset is not a good idea. I know sooo many people who were disappointed because they thought that way. Ole Miss rush is not as bad as they say. The reason so many peope think that it's so cut throat is because soooo mant girls go into rush thinking that they want to join a particular organization.
Also don't join a certain one just because your friends are in that one or because they want you to. I know it's so cliche that everyone says "Make your own decision" but it's true. Grades are very important too and make sure you have a recommendation for EVERY sorority. Or get as many as you can. They will tell you at all the meetings that you don't have to have them BUT THIS IS NOT TRUE...I know almost every sorority REQUIRES each girl to have a recommendation from an alum to be considered.
DG is a terrific house on the Ole Miss campus...but don't get your heart set on one because there are sooo many wonderful sororities at Ole Miss. They are all great! Seriously. If you have anymore questions about Ole Miss or Ole Miss rush...just ask. There are a few other Ole Miss greek on here too (AOPi, KKG, and ZTA--although they are no longer on campus)
