Kelly Osbourne Enters Drug Rehab
An addiction to pain killers may not seem like a big deal when compared to bigger, more notorius drugs like Heroin or Ice, but it's still pretty sad:
http://customwire.ap.org/dynamic/sto...MPLATE=DEFAULT
When asked on the interview show if she had advice on how to steer children away from drugs, Sharon Osbourne responded somberly.
"I'm a failure," she replied. "How can I give anybody advice?"
WOW.

I know what that is like. I hurt my knee and back and my doctor did not want to prescribe anything for me and told me to take some alleve or something.... well after awhile I noticed I was buying a bottle a week and my sister counted my swallowing about 5 or 6 at a time... it was very scary.
It was hard for me to stop, becuase I hurt.... but I got a new doctor and doing better with help. I now monitor everything I take.

I think its so sad that both Kelly and Jack have had some of the same addiction problems their father suffered from! I guess it really does run in families I hope she (and her father and brother) are successful in their attempts at sobriety.

The way someone dresses has little bearing to the fact that they will or will not use drugs. And contrary to popular belief, the way they act or live doesn't always give us a clear cut picture.
So they have been through some things and they are pretty spoiled but that doesn't make them "idiot children" at all. They've made some bad decisions and it happens because just about everyone makes a bad decision here or there. Maybe we are all idiots then?
*edited* because my keyboard really hates me this morning.

Like D said, that's not a major factor in whether or not someone will abuse drugs. When I was a junior in high school, it was widely known that my English teacher and her husband, who was an Episcopal minister who had recently retired as a high-ranking AF officer, had just put their son into a rehab center for doing hard drugs (ie, things not as accessible as prescription drugs). By looking at him, as well as his interactions with his parents, no one would have "assumed" that this family would be impacted by drugs. I know he relapsed at least once. It can happen to anyone--regardless of how permissive, religious, or well-dressed the family is.
So, please, please, don't be judgemental based on mere appearances, and don't call people idiots based on what you see on TV, or any one-dimensional medium for that matter. How would you feel if I called you an idiot based on the fact that you obviously can't spell?

Wow...can we say judgemental? For a second there I thought it was Bill Cosby who wrote that above post!
Obviously I'm not a parent, but I've lived through drug abuse in my own family. Were my parents strict? Hell yeah. We had curfew, my parents were quick to lay down the law, but they were fair. ISHT, I couldn't even wear makeup until I was 16.
But no, there are SOME people out there who thinks my mom FAILED as a mother because her daughter developed an addiction to Vicodin. Just because her daughter developed a weakness to a painkiller doesn't make her an idiot at all. She's weak and it was easy for her to give in to that stuff. God bless Mom for being the one who actually sought to get her some help.
These days kids aren't necessarily reflections of their parents anymore. Some kids obviously don't give two shats about family values--and for some, it's all about the company you keep, the alcohol you consume, and material things. These are things you just realize over time. I know that's what happened to me.

Remember kids, dressing well = you will not do drugs.
BEST LESSON OF THE YEAR.
We might need to start worrying less about idiot kids and start worrying more about idiot parents.
Btw, it is your opinion but to think that it's the same today as it was in the 60's and 70's is just, well, where the heck have you been the last thirty years?

Are you really Tom Earp posing as an Alpha Phi?
Because neither of you make sense.

Here's a quote from him:
"I am something of a madman. I can do nothing in moderation. If it's booze, I drink the place dry. If it's drugs, I take everything and then scrape the carpet for little crumbs. I took LSD everyday for years - I was spending about $1000 a week on drugs... I OD'd about a dozen times." ...Ozzy on his addictions
The "Do as I say, not as I do" method of parenting doesn't usually work too well. There is a genetic component to addictive behaviors as well. Some drugs are incredibly addictive (like nicotine).
I'd say there are a number of factors leading to the Osbourne kids having addictions.

I dont mean because they way they dress you wont do drugs.....
I just think if they had more control over their MINOR children at the time and got a hold of the problme they would not be so wild and rebellious and be the way they are

Yea, I started getting worried when I found out that Ozzy's Parkinsons Disease was drug induced....that kind of blew me away.

Do you have to be in couture? Because I know a lot of people who go to my school that dress fantastic and have problems with all sorts of drugs. I bet you know some of them too, B.
Parents need to teach their children moderation. I know my parents smoked pot. I'm sure they tried other drugs too, I mean, they lived in Europe for 5 years!
You cannot stop your kids from doing what they want, no matter how hard they try. I'm grateful that my parents realized this, and rather than locking me up in a cell, taught me to be responsible. I never drank until college, which surprised them. I've never used drugs and I won't do it in this country. I think it's ridiculous to think you'll have complete control over your kids - the parents I know who did this had children turn into drug addicts/alcoholics/raging sluts as soon as they got to college. Those of us who had been taught moderation and respected...just drink more than we used to.
