Enterprise Rent-a-car

Has anyone started out in Enterprise's managment training program, or heard anything about it? I graduated with a degreein Psychology and want to get into Human Resources, but I am getting really desperate for a job, and I need to start somehwere. Enterprise is pretty much a sure thing for me (well, for anyone) But I have heard mixed reviews on working there. Any opnions?? Thanks!

I am a Branch Manager Trainee for Hertz and some girl from Enterprise backed her vehicle into my company car today...

Washing cars isn't really a bad job. At Hertz it doesn't matter what your title is...if a car is dirty you clean it. If you're close to an airport, like my office is, sometimes you can take it there and someone will clean it out for you or you can just pick up a clean car.

I don't wear a suit to work everyday but I have seen many Branch Managers outside washing cars in suits.

This is unrelated but related...

I got a job offer at a country club that isn't necessarily what I want. Half the time I would be treated as a manager and half the time I would be treated as wait staff.

Upon telling my father that I wasn't thrilled about the idea of having to wait tables with a college degree, he replied that he hires all of his employees (he's a senior minister) with the understanding that if it comes down to the trash needing to be taken out, every employee-including him, the highest "manager" of the church- needs to be prepared to take it out.

So, yeah, maybe you don't want to be washing cars in a suit, but every place that you go and work... especially entry level... is going to have things that you'll have to do that maybe you don't want to. Whether it's washing cars or making coffee or taking out the trash, I think this is just something that ALL of us are going to have to face in this job market.

I hear you can swing all kinds of sweet deals and commissions working at these rent-a-cars. For ex., give a guy an upgrade to a nice luxury car if he throws you 50 bones.

I agree with this. Sometimes you have to do things you don't want to do. But everybody's job is like that.

What I think is stupid is having your employess wash cars in their business suits because the compnay thinks custoemrs like to see that. Well I can tell you right now that I think it's stupid and it doesn't impress me.
Fine, if employess have to wash cars at least let them change into some grubby clothes and some coveralls. I don't want to walk into a car rental place and see the employee all wet and dissheveled because he/she was out washing cars in their suit.

I definitely agree that all jobs will have something that you really just don't want to do. As an entry-level employee, you will sometimes just have to suck it up and realize that you will eventually get promoted. I just think washing cars in a business suit is taking it to the extreme.
My thinking is that suits are not cheap and they're made of heavy material. Usually when you wash you're car, you're covered in dirt afterwards which is why you wear a bathing suit or crummy clothing. I couldn't imagine ruining a $200-plus suit from washing a car in it. Maybe if the company allowed you to write off your suits as a company expense, I wouldn't mind but they don't. I also feel bad for those Enterprise employees who are washing cars in a wool suit during Florida's summer months (March-October ).

I think that was the issue in the other thread...that you do and do all this grunt work with promises of a promotion and never get it. It's one thing to wash the cars or take out the trash when you know eventually you will be rewarded. It's quite a different matter when those rewards never materialize.

Hijack

In the Sheryl Crow song "All I Wanna Do" she sings about people washing their cars on their lunch breaks in skirts and suits.

Maybe the work for Enterprise

Yeah. I agree that they should probably have Enterprise polos or something like that for car washing. Maybe we aren't getting the whole story, though.

At Hertz ALL employee's are expected to wash and clean cars when needed...even Branch Managers who have worked their way up the ladder and have been there for years. If you know that you are going to be washing cars then you can dress down and wear khaki's and a Hertz polo shirt. On the weekends we usually wear jeans because that is when we have the most free time to clean cars.

On the weekends we even clean our own office...I have seen our Branch Manager scrubbing toliets.
