Um, just an observation...."Not Your Grandmother's/Grandma's..." is a pretty common phrase in the English language. In fact, I googled it and got 134,000 matches. Perhaps you want to contact all of those so you can share your, um observation with them, too?

Um, just another observation...Some grandmothers probably wish their granddaughters had joined elsewhere. But, again, um, just an observation.

Sorry, DJSnowBunny! I got so caught up in castigating the oaf (oafette?) that I forgot to congratulate you on WKA.

Best of luck to you and your sisters!!

is it just me

or did anyone else notice that their choice of colors and symbol are similar to zta?

zta-colors-turquoise and gray
symbol-5 pointed crown

theirs-blue and silver
symbol-5 pointed crown

so much for encouraging individuality!

there have been lengthy discussions about using other groups colors, names, symbols, creeds, by-laws, you name it. i didn't like it when cristinasmiles was trying to be sigma kappa without becoming sigma kappa, and i don't appreciate this group doing something similar. i know i am responding to an old post, but when i tried to contact them via their listed email, it came back and this situation just chaffs me!! thanks for letting me vent!!

You would think they would notice the similarities since Zeta's Theta Eta Chapter is well known on the Stephen F. Austin campus.

With all due respect, the name of your college is Stephen F. Austin State University. The first name is spelled Stephen, with a *ph*, and not Steven with a *v*.

Hey all, this thread is from 8 months ago. I don't think Miss SnowBunny will be back to answer our questions.

I know that her symbol and colors are strangely similar to ZTA's but I don't want to jump to any copycat comclusions unless I see her creed and motto first. There are many NPC sororities that have similarities. Both AZD and KD use the bear, TPA and Tri-Delta use the same colors, etc.

But, once again, DJSnowBunny has 2 posts from back in February so I don't think she'll be back to explain her reasoning for picking the symbols and colors that she picked.

Wow this is an old thread, but I wanted to reply anyway.

Three years ago before I joined Phi Chi, some friends and I tried to start a local sorority. (We couldn't find an advisor, so it didn't work. Thank God, or I'd never have found Phi Chi!) Anyway, we chose our colors - blue, purple and silver, our symbols, a three pointed crown being one of them. We have a very visible ZTA chapter on our campus, but honestly, I never thought anything about the few similarities (even though there were differences - ours was royal blue and 3 points instead of 5 - ours signified the importance we placed on the friendship and bond as children of God that the 3 of us would-be-founders share.) We had very specific reasons for choosing those colors and symbols, whereas a lot of times I wonder if some groups just randomly say, "Oh, DG's anchor is so cute! We'll use that as a symbol. And I love Chi Omega's colors, so we'll use those too..." (example)

What I've always wondered about was locals that use registered trademarks such as Babs Bunny, or Winnie the Pooh, or Calvin as their mascots. I wonder how much meaning those have to the sorority, and how legal it is to use a registered trademark as your mascot.

just my .02

I don't think Steel Grey and Turquoise are really that similar to blue and silver. I mean, they're in the same family, but lots of people share colors ans symbols. It's what is means to them that really matters I think. I mean on just that campus you could say that ZTA and DDD have the same colors-blue and silver, or that AXO and XO have almost the same name and share one color. And honestly,IF they were lifting inspriation a little, can we really blame them? I mean silver and blue are beautiful colors together-look great on jerseys and in decorum and what girl doesn't want to use the crown?????

About the use of already trademarked characters. i think as long as you just say " our mascot is the bunny" you're OK, even if you use Babs Bunny and have her face all over your website. I just don't hink you can actually say she is your offical mascot without WB permission.
