Biggest Challenge(s) Facing NPHC organizations?

I'm developing a new workshop and want some feedback...

2nd question: should NPHC play a role in helping member organizations promote their visions?

staying relevant AND exclusive.

relevant- Oftentimes our orgs get caught up in functions that do not really reflect the needs or beliefs of our community, IMO. Some, like deb balls, are enjoyable, but honestly, what good use do these events serve? We need to be doing things that reflect us as a vibrant, living and growing part of black society, not orgs mired in the past and traditions that don't serve a purpose.

exclusive- this does not mean let your DoP or MoP beat your behind bloody so you can be 'one of us'. We need to find a way to stay exclusive and weed out the bad element that wants our orgs to be GANGS as opposed to organizations of COLLEGE-EDUCATED individuals!

I agree totally with lovelyivy84--relevance and membership.
Relevance: What is an organization's mission and vision for the next 5 years? Next 10? Next 20? What are long-term milestones? What tasks will the organization undertake to achieve objectives and goals? Where will the organization find the money to execute its mission, vision, goals and objectives? How do we ensure the needs of potential, new and existing members are met?

Membership: How do we remain elite without being elitist? How do we conduct a membership intake that's useful to old and new members alike? How do we do a better job of selecting new members and training our existing members about the consequences of operating outside of the outlined boundaries?

Two of our biggest problems are intertwined. Membership selection and retention. We need to ensure that we are picking young people who want to be D9 for the right reasons [getting into parties cheap should not be #1 ]

Once people graduate, we need to keep them in the fold. However, if we do a better job of selecting the best and the brightest, then we will probably be better able to retain them. It just kills me when I see sooooooooooooooooooooo many people who still feel Greek, but aren't active. If an extra 10% of our combined membership was active with a voter registration drive, we could sway the next election.

Selection because deep in my heart, I really feel that the "wrong" people are now attracted to Greek life.

Retention....if we could actually get that critical age of members to make that transition from college senior to first year professional WITH a grad chapter....*sigh*

hmmm. Perhaps staggered fees would help to keep the graduating seniors.
