UT suspends fraternity indefinitely over hazing The University of Tennessee has suspended a fraternity chapter indefinitely in connection with alleged "hazing activities."
UT Dean of Students Maxine Thompson suspended the Sigma Nu Fraternity's Epsilon Eta chapter in a Jan. 27 letter to its president, according to a Sigma Nu letter, said Andrew Shafer, head of the fraternity.
Thompson wrote that she made her decision after UT learned the Sigma Nu National Fraternity had suspended the UT chapter on Jan. 21.
A release from Sigma Nu, which is headquartered in Lexington Va., on Friday states that it "is working with officials at the University of Tennessee to investigate reports recently received by the fraternity alleging hazing activities at the Epsilon Eta chapter at (UT). The investigation is continuing."
