Confessed serial killer may get released

Watts, who’s been called a poster boy for the perils of plea bargaining, will be 52 when he’s released and has vowed to kill again — sparking furious efforts in Michigan and Texas to keep him locked up.
They thought he’d die in prison, but good-time credits — time off for good behavior, as well as automatic sentence reductions — cut his sentence to 24 years. Watts doesn’t even have to win parole. Under Texas law, corrections officials would have no choice but to release Watts when his sentence expires.
A 12-member task force looking into unsolved murders remains confident it can uncover new clues to bring Watts to trial, said Rob Moran, an assistant Wayne County prosecutor.
THIS really sucks! 
May God help the prosecutors lock this animal away for life.

There's a confessed serial killer about to be released. If he should kill again, it won't be his fault. It will be the fault of state legislators who allowed Texas law to be such that he can be released.

No PM_Mama, I'm in La. They just caught the Baton Rouge (LSU) serial killer.
Russell, how can you say it wouldn't be his fault? Because he warned us? Because he's crazy?
Of course I blame the system and the short sighted lawmakers who missed this loophole. Perhaps most of all this crap with plea bargains.
If the guy is sane enough to NOT confess to the killings they are investigating and to protect his own freedom, then I would suggest he's sane enough to know it is wrong to murder. It will be his choice as it will be his fault...IMHO.

I just finished reading the article, and I think for all those murders he "committed" he should be put in a mental institution for life. I can't even imagine his family keeping the "he's innocent" stance after he ADMITTED to killing, and the police CAUGHT him tryin to drown a woman because of her "evil eyes".
If there is no way that they can keep this psycho locked up somewhere, then the justice system has failed... the families and all Americans.
And if he does get out, he BETTER enlist in the witness protection program becuase I'm sure there will be one over-emotional (for lack of a better and more respectful word) family member of a victim who will hunt him down and torture him.

That thought's in my mind too. It wouldn't shock me if somebody tries to take him out the minute he is released...IF he is released.

Ummm...I don't see how this is a reason for the death penalty. It IS a reason for convicted serial killers to be held for LIFE without parole, good behavior, or any of that crap. How the hell did he get a sentence like that??????

While the possibility of the killer being freed is a travesty, it does not absolve him of his responsibility as a human being. It is the fault of both the system and the felon.

I didn't mean that he would be without blame. What I do mean is that for society to release a convicted serial killer, is grossly irresponsible. We know that the recidivism rate is unacceptable, to the point where this is a public safety issue. This felon is a loaded weapon, and he is not releasing himself.
