Since I'm older than sigkapqueen I was in the chapter when the first king of hearts was put on, it had some problems which is why we stopped doing it. This wasn't our whole philanthropy project. We would sell lollipops, do the memory walk, visit retirement homes, and put on a very successful golf tournament (for a couple of years we raised the most money out of all the chapters in the country) and then we did King of hearts. It was just to much. Now we've scaled back and focused more on lollipop sales and our senior citizen prom (which I believe are both in the fall) so we can go back to dedicating our efforts to King of Hearts in the spring. Every sorority at UNLV has a week long event like this (DZ turtle tug, AGD battle of the Gods, AZD XI man I'm not sure what ADpi has)
It's basically a competition among the fraternities. Girls pair up and coach each fraternity throughout the week. We used to have a skit, capture the flag competition(which we no longer do, due to liability issues, it got pretty ugly), we had a sigma kappa trivia game, and other stuff. But the one of the main things is every girl wears a heart around her neck and each fraternity is trying to collect the most hearts. So some guys will pretty much do anything to get your heart. The two sisters in charge of the event have a silver heart worth like 50 points and fraternities will go all out. For example, make a valentine that was liek 8 feet tall, or the most notorious, the Pike's here got together took their shirts off and posed for a picture in a fountain(on a busy corner) on campus while holding signs that read We love the sigma kappa's.
It is a lot of fun, but can get out of hand unless someone is completely dedicated to making it run smoothly. Sorry this post was so long.
