Weight Watchers

Has anyone her ever done Weight Watchers?

Has it worked for you? What did you find difficult about the program.

I just joined myself. I'm interested in hearing anyone elses thought. My mum brought me too it because she lost a lot of weight on the program so I'd thought I'd give it a try.

P.S Wish me luck!

I've been on WW since mid-October and have lost about 15lbs. It's all about portion control.

You basically can eat anything you want, just in small portions. You figure out the points, and go from there. If you know you'll want pizza for dinner, eat very light the rest of the day.

It's MUCH less restrictive than Atkins in terms of the types of food, but not in the terms of amounts of food. The key is to find low point foods that you can fill up on. I don't like most veggies, so I just end up a bit hungry if I reach my points limit. To me, that's better than raw celery. ick.

Good luck. I joined and got the info and never went back. If you thinkn you need the meetings, great, but I didn't want to pay for them AND have somewhere to go every week, lest I be penalized.

Weight Watchers is one of the most nutritionally sound programs out there. It focuses on portion control and exercise. The meetings will provide you with moral support and tips when you start to lose motivation or identify troublesome areas for you. You will lose slowly but steadily (the healthy way!) and learn to make lifestyle changes (essential for continued success). I found that a lot had to do with my leader. Some are better and more helpful than others.

I followed WW before my wedding and lost about 20 lbs. I did it on my own, though, with the books and information given to me by a friend. That worked fine for me, but I know some people really like the motivation and accountability that having leaders and meetings to go to gave them. I'm just starting it again because I've gained about 5-10 lbs now, after the wedding, and really liked the "structure" WW gave me (working towards a specific amount of points, having to plan out meals in advance, figuring out how to work in exercise, etc. . .) but didn't feel like I had to give up anything.

There are some great sites that can help you figure out points for when you go out to eat--Dottie's Weight Loss Zone comes to mind as one that has a great itemized restaurant listing -- www.dwlz.com -- and the books have a good generic listing of foods and items from restaurants (because, hey, we're not always going to make everything we eat, we're going to have to go out every once in a while).

Overall, I've found it fairly easy to follow and have been happy with the results! Good Luck!

Oh but Rudey, darling, Anorexia is so 1990s!

Besides, if you go under the amount of calories you need to survive, your body goes into Red Alert mode and hoardes those few calories you do allow it, thereby making it even more difficult to lose weight.

And I know anorexia is a serious problem, and should not be taken lightly, I was just responding tongue-in-cheek-ly to Mr. Rudey

Well I won't starve myself, but I will eventually reward myself with expensive jeans.

Which brand do you recommend?

That's not always true. There are ways to spike your metabolism levels while starving yourself and if you're a girl and not worried about maintaining lean muscle mass it shouldn't matter. So moral of the story, you shouldn't eat at all this week.

--Yes, ok.

RudeyThere may be but I'd rather much look like Halle Berry than Lara Flynn Boyle. Give me muscle tone and mass over being stick skinny any day!

Lady Pi Phi two that I've heard good things about are Citizens of Humanity and Paper Denim & Cloth. Usually in the $100-$150 range. I just discovered our local Von Maur carries PD&C but not in my size! I'm too damn tall!

Exactly! Did you see her on the cover of some tabloid. I can't remeber which one. She looked nasty.

How tall are you. I'm 5'8'' and I find that I have problems finding pants that are long enough myself.

weight loss

my best friend has joined weight watchers- gone off it- gone on it- gone off it- you get the idea she just wasn't very consistant and she did lose weight like 15 pounds in like 2 months- but it was very difficult for her..... i know i couldn't do it... i just try to watch what i eat and pay attention to when i'm hungry- and i drink lots of water! i lost and kept 20 pounds off by just paying attention to what i ate- walking more often and drinking tons of water.... anyway- my best friend just joined LA weight loss- i don't know if there is one of yours in that area but a lot of my friends have done it and really like it- ash just started- itsl ike 150 dollars to start! so tahts keeping her going to the meetings since she has so much money invested- plus they map you out on a specific plan- not having points- but eating 1dairy- 3 carbs- 3 proteins- along those lines- she likes it so far- but hang in there- pay attention to your body- take vitamins (esp calcium!) if you want more advice about vitamins PM me or pick up a book about it- or there is a ton of advice online- get back to basics and stay away from bagged/boxed food- (for the most part) food wasn't meant to be eaten out of plastic like that.... anyway- enough babbling- good luck!!!!

Did it, had PHENOMENAL success, but quit out of boredom and I'm trying to manage my weight on my own. I'm still losing, so whatever they taught me must have stuck.

LadyPiPhi, I don't know much about Weight Watchers, but I just wanted to wish you luck on your endeavor (since you're Canadian though, I guess you're embarking on an endeavour, right? )

It's so hard to lose weight, but keep reminding yourself how good you're going to feel once you're done!

The thing is, you're never really done with weight management, especially if you've had problems with your weight before. Losing weight is easy. It's keeping the weight off that's the hardest.
