Question Terry McMillan....

Has anyone read her new book? I was in Wal-Mart and I saw it...Guess I will have to go back and pick it up.

Hello
I bought it yesterday and I am really liking it. It has the sounds of being autobiographical since the mother has asthma and this is the same disease that killed Terry McMillan's mother plus it has some of the same vibes/family relationships as Soul Food. It might also remind you of MAMA, her first book as well. I am half way through it right now.

Check out MEDIA PLAY who has it for 45% off. I am an AVID reader and have been waiting for years for a book from her.

I saw an interview with Ms. McMillan yesterday and she said it was seven years in the making. She stated some of the mother's traits were from her mother, but when her mother suddenly died and then she lost her best friend, she had to put it away for a while. She says it was about how parents are nosy and when is the time when parents let go and let their children become adults without them butting in. She does not want to see it made into a movie as of yet, but wouldn't mind seeing it as a weekly series.

Okay you all, I am 99% done but I had to get up to go to work this morning but I have 33 pages left to read. Had it not been for my waste of time book club meeting yesterday I would be done. It is very autobiographical in the dealings with her mom. She was actually working on this before HOW STELL GOT HER GROOVE BACK but when her mom died she had to put it down. Reading this has helped me deal with some of my own issues concerning my father's death and thinking about him at the moment he is passing on. I can see how this book was cathartic for as well as for other readers. This could definitely be made into a series but like I said yesterday, it has a SOUL FOOD the series vibe so maybe Terry is a DAY LATE .

Again it is an EXCELLENT book and I am glad to see her back with some good stuff because although I liked HOW STELLA, it was truly a 300 page sentence.

I've started reading...

I am loving the line Viola used in reference to her daughter's choices in husbands... page 12, paragraph 2! (Makes you go hmmmmmmmm!)

Is Lewis in D E N I A L or what? Maybe his experience with (you know)...messed him up?

Lightbulb

I finished the book last night...it was GREAT!

I am sure if Terry would have completed the book before Soul Food came out, the movie probably would have been wayyyyyy better than Soul Food.

I think I am going to take a tip from the family and send a few letters/cards to my father to let him know "how I am doing"

It's a great read for ANYONE!

I just finished the book over the weekend. It was great. I read it every spare chance I got between school, working and studying. I have several friends who have been listed to borrow the book from me. I am so glad I read this book. I even saw glimpses of my own family in the book and it just made me laugh.
