Delta Upsilon Members Play in National Championship
29 undergraduate members of the Delta Upsilon International Fraternity
will play as members of the Colgate University football team in the national
1-AA football championship this weekend. The game will take place on
Friday, December 19th, 2003 in Chattanooga, TN. The game will be
televised on ESPN2 and begins at 7pm EST.
The Raiders football program has been experiencing unparalleled success
this year with a record of 15-0 so far this season. The Raiders are
also on a 21 game winning streak, which is currently the best in the nation.
The 29 brothers on the team include four, 1st-team all conference players and
a total of eight starting players. Click here to read more about Raider
Football. The Colgate Chapter has experienced similar success in the past few
years with both the University and International Fraternity, winning the most
improved chapter award from both. Click here to read more about the
Colgate Chapter of Delta Upsilon.
The Colgate Chapter, founded in 1865, is located in Hamilton, NY.
Noteworthy DUs from the Colgate Chapter include former U.S. Chief
Justice and Presidential Candidate Charles Evans Hughes 1881, Religious Leader Harry Emerson Fosdick 1900, Robert Tyburski ’74, Vice President for
University Relations at Colgate University, Mark VanEeghen ’74, a
former running back for the Oakland Raiders, and Tom Burgess ’86, a former
quarterback in the CFL.

No football scholarships either
Interesting note, is that Colgate is in the final, but doesn't offer any football scholarships, competing against teams with 50+ athletic scholarships.

When I was an undergraduate, several DU chapters had "football house reputations" Cornell, Rutgers and Union and Colgate all had the rep of being football houses.
Guess its still true at Colgate.

They were also the football house at Swarthmore until Swarthmore eliminated their football program a year or so ago. As far as Cornell goes, I don't know where DU stand today, but Phi Psi is about 3/4 varsity athletes with most coming from the football and swim teams.

Strange, but I recall some guy saying that DU sucked in the Northeast. Does being a football house mean that you suck? Could it be that this guy had absolutely no idea what he was talking about?

DU in the Northeast seems kind of strong, however in the midwest and west aside from Seattle and UW are weak and not held in high regard. (Two of my good friends from High school are in DU so yeah thats why I know way too much about them)
