So at my school, I'm constantly hearing about sororities doing "woodsers"... ADPi has Mallard Ball, Zeta has Pig Roast, DG and Chi-O go randomly for them. Yet Alpha Xi never does. I've always heard that we're not allowed to. Is there a national rule against them or could it be my chapter's advisors? It seems like a really fun idea and I want to be able to go on one!

it's when you go out into the "middle of nowhere" and basically party. The problem I think with Alpha Xi having them is the fact that our bylaws say we can't have alcohol unless having a third party vendor. So without going to a bar or something of the like, we can't have alcohol provided, even for the over 21 crowd. Any ideas of how to get around this? Or what to do?? I know it sounds crazy but if so many other sororities want to do it I want to also!!

ADPi, Chi-O, etc are members of FIPG if I'm not mistaken. Shouldn't they be following exactly the same rules as Alpha Xi Delta? I'm all for having fun, but this sounds like a risk management nightmare (sorry to be a downer).

For the thing about the rules about alcohol/3rd party vendors...just because they exist, doesn't mean that everyone follows them. I was surprised by what some groups get away with, on my campus and a few others, while they're members of FIPG. Like one group's "Screw Your Breakfast" with pancakes and screwdrivers for breakfast. They even had tshirts...what'd they do, hide them if a national advisor came?
Anyway, back to the subject of woodsers...it seems like, barring you convincing a licensed alcohol-seller to come out in the woods with y'all, there's no way to do this and follow AXiD policy.
Perhaps you could organize a "woodser" party yourself? Invite all your sisters, and other people too. Don't have it be an AXiD function, just a party.

Just to make sure everyone knows, I'm not trying to get past rules. I know that they're made for a reason. I just wanted to see if there was a way to get it done right. I'm sorry if people have the wrong idea. Mainly I'm asking about if there's a possibility of finding a way to have a third party vendor. My chapter is not in any way planning one. I just keep hearing about all the woodsers that everyone else does, and would like to find a way. Please do not get the wrong idea about my chapter or anything like that. I'm simply just a sister wanting to figure something new and fun for our chapter. I appoligize for getting some people riled up about this.....(through PMs mainly).

I know this is an old thread, but I stumbled upon it and wanted to comment.

The UCF sororities who hold Pig Roast and Mallard Ball are not holding woodsers. These date functions are dry. They are evening events held at a farm in Orlando.

At ADPi's Mallard Ball, members and their dates dress in camo. They come to the house 1 hour before the bus leaves for "Mocktail" a non-alcohol reception (no alcohol is permitted on or around sorority property). Once at the function, members can go on a hayride, roast marshmallows and make s'mores at a bonfire or hang out in a lit pavilion eating bbq or dancing. There's a DJ at the event. There are advisers present.

The sorority at no time violates sorority, university or NPC rules regarding alcohol.

When I was at UCF, Lambda Chi Alpha held a similiar event called Lambda Chi Lumberjack. This was also a dry function-- no alcohol was served.

You can hold an event at this farm-- get in touch with one of the social chairmen for either ZTA or ADPi and they can give you the contact info.

Thank you so much for your reply adpiucf! I was under the impression that alcohol was served at the Mallard Ball. Guess that's what I get for listening to hearsay huh? I appreciate that you set it straight for me. I would be interested in hearing about the location and will try to get in contact with the social chair persons.
