New Initiates
Gents: I'm pleased to announce that last night I witnessed a milestone for Beta-Omicron (Illinois State). We initiated 14 good men and in the process brought in our 1,000th member!
ISU is relatively young as chapters go (founded 3/22/69), but it was still good to have B-O #1, Dan Swille, in attendance.
Dan said when he went to Sears and bought $10,000 worth of bedding, silverware, plates and furniture off of credit cards in 1969 he had no idea if the venture would ever prosper enough for him to recoup the investment. He's now gratified that he made the effort.
I guess that's the meaning of Xalepa Ta Kala!

Bill,
Congratulations to you and your chapter! One thousand certainly is a milestone. Wow. I know how great it feels because we are a young chapter too and I just got my 6th century brother last weekend when we initiated 15 new brothers.
Do you guys celebrate century brothers? Some chapters haven't heard of the concept, from what I understand.
That seems like alot of money for 1969! I'm glad he made the effort and it seems to have paid off. We located our co-founder and initiated him just last year. He's BN 615 but should have been BN2. Better late than never!
Again, congrats!!!
In ZAX,
Jono

The same thought came to my mind after he'd made the comment about $10m. Perhaps he translated it into today's financial terms. I didn't question him about it at the time because he was telling this story to alums from various eras, and when #1 speaks I tend to let him talk w/out interruption.
On the other hand, I recall from my days as an AM (initiated 3/22/74) the story of how Dan used all sorts of credit cards to get stuff for the first chapter house, which has since been torn down and currently has a 3-story apt. complex on it. I'll verify it w/him since I'm the newsletter editor.
ZAX,
BF

We also initated men last night. The Epsilon Mu Zeta added 17 men to our roster. That brings us up to 1883.

I don't think we initiated 15 men last Friday night; we initiated 15 boys.
At the get-together on Saturday night, however, they certainly did look different...

1000 is awesome
Friday night was the first time I have been able to watch an initiation other than my own. I knew it was a special thing to see when i went through, but it keeps gaining meaning in my life and is truely the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. It was truely and awesome expereince to see so many alums come to watch it including Swilley and the oh so famous Bill Foltz. I hope you all come to the next one when hopefully i will be the phi.

Congrats Boz!
It's great to hear that Illinois State is doing well. My brother, Mike Aschbrenner, is a chopper from Illinois State.

We initiated 8 on the 8th and the Beta Boys from Maine came down to watch. Some of us are going up to Maine for their initiation in two weeks. I definitely suggest inviting other chapters to your initiation or going to another chapter and seeing their's. It just an amazing experience

Repart on LX Z is finally in.
4 New Brothers. One did not have the Finances so wants to be held over for next Sem.. One will be Initiated Founders Day in Feb. So Basically 5 and one in the bull pen.
As some one said earlier, Keep an ear and eye out as during the "Crystal Blue Blur" you will learn more each time you see it!
I have and it has been 38 years! I still have the hairs on my neck tingle and get teary eyed!

Sigma Phi at Embry Riddle initiated 8 this past weekend. I was lucky enough to be the first one in the class =)
We also initiated an AM from UCF because he missed his ritual.
it was a great experience and certainly can be described as a "crystal clear blur"

Aschbrenner, this past Thanksgiving week I was in Champaign and as a result from posting on this website I made the ritual drive past the U of I LXA house. Not a sound anywhere around, not a sound.

Brother Good... sorry to hear that the house was silent. I know back when I was in school sometimes they would close the house down if no one stuck around over the holidays, especially if they have the whole week off. The number of undergrads at U of Illinois has grown quite a bit too that half of the members live out-of-house.
Hopefully you'll be back in the area another time to see the house. They've had some renovations done over the past few years. It's looking sharp!

The renovations have have been well worth the effort. My first thought when I saw the house was "What an all- American looking fraternity house". It looks like it came from central casting. I'm sure all the members are proud of it. And it was like being in another 'dimension' looking at it in silence! Of course, all the noise that I expect can be made in the house will wait for another time. Holler anytime.

Theta Lambda nets 9
Theta Lambda at Simpson recently initiated 9 AWESOME individuals into the bond!
Best part of all - during PI week, one man signed a bid card - and he was recruited by one of the men going through!! Pretty cool stuff!
