Our high school choir sang at Carnagie twice -- once when our middle daughter was in it, and once when our son was. It's kind of a gimmick to fill up the hall and hotels with choir members, parents, etc. -- but's it a LOT of fun for the kids. We went to a couple of shows and did some other stuff while there.
Congratulations!
(Oh, and the Ohio University Marching Band was the first marching band ever to peform at Carnagie when they were there for the Macy's Parade a few years ago.)

Thanks for calling the trip a gimmick. Whatever you wanna call it, it is an honor for ANY musician to perform there. Thanks to everyone else on here though for being kind!

I'm sure he didn't mean it that way, Sairose! DeltAlum isn't like that. I think he was just saying that Carnegie Hall is a big place and is filled with mostly family and friends for the performances.
I'm so happy for you; it sounds like a great time and definitely something you can tell your kids about someday!

Had I thought it was a bad thing, I wouldn't have said congratulations.
The trips are worthwhile, and as I said, a lot of fun. Definitely worth doing.
Fact is, though, that Carnagie is having trouble competing with places like Lincoln Center, etc. and the regional choirs are a badly needed revenue source. Both times our kids sang there, 99 percent of the audience consisted of other choir members and their families. Which is OK. It helps keep that grand old landmark open. And most of the performers and their families stayed at the New Yorker. Which is also an OK way to fill the rooms.
It appeared that the NY Phil. (I think) would be returning there, but that apparantely fell through.
So, I'll just repeat, congratulations. And have fun, but don't eat at the chili place around the corner like our kids did prior to the concert. The hall isn't THAT big.

Yay for an SAI (and I'm sure there are more in your choir) at Carnegie Hall. I did that in November 2001. My choir went and premiered a piece of Christmas music. It was a lot of fun. Do you know any details of the trip yet?

You will have a blast! My junior year of high school we got to perform in Carnagie Hall with John Rutter directing us we sang his Requim. Psycho dude but great when it comes to music. I have a video tape to show how I did. I only wish I was like some of my fellow classmates at the time who snuck away during the part of the program we weren't in to go to the gift shop to get a T-shirt as proof too. Unfortuantly the only pictures I have of the place is the outside of the building cause they are anal if you take any inside without permission.
But have fun! Let us all know how it was after you go.
