DAR

Are any of you in DAR? If so, are you active in your chapter? Are you a genealogist?

I'm not, but know women who are/were. I don't believe I would qualify since I'm adopted, but never really looked into it. Definitely not a geneologist, either

Had to crash and say, yes! I am a member of the DAR, and am my chapter's Registrar. That means I check & help with the genealogical proofs for applicants.

But then, you already knew that!

Btw, Silver, I was looking for your chapter's website the other day. Would you mind telling me again? Thanks!!

!

Board crash alert!

I'm a DAR too -- Tejas Chapter, Houston TX -- I was just inducted in April so I can't be an officer yet. But I am the newsletter and website chairman and I'm going to be paging at State Convention. I just got Outstanding Jr Member of the chapter too. (Tooting horn a bit, sorry folx. That vote was the highlight of the last few months. :::blush::: )

And because I must be REALLY into self-flagillation, Im' in the process of getting an historical marker on my ancestor's grave site. Woolwich, ME here we come!

Adrienne

ETA: my initial papers were SUCH an ordeal it's not something I'm going to do again for a while, hence why I'm not doing the hard-core geneaology I started my DAR pursuit at age 19; I was 34 when I was inducted. I'm planning on a supplemental using the short-form, but that is probably going to be it for the forseeable future. My real talent lies in VIS.

Hi.

Honeychile, you do have a chapter web site?

adduncan, would you please post or PM your chapter web site address? Congrats on your awards! Outstanding Jr. Member is a FABULOUS honor and so is paging at a Texas Convention! Good luck with the marker! Are you going to do a ceremony for the marker? If so, I have ideas.

Have an awesome day!
Silver

I'm not in DAR - nor would I be able to be as my relatives came over the turn of last century before things started to REALLY get messy in Eastern Europe.

I guess you could say that I'm a geneologist through my history and historic preservation passions. I like finding out the interesting stories in addition to the lineages. Because my family is from Eastern Europe I also am having fun trying to find out where exactly they are from (my maternal great grandparents are claimed to be from Russia but spoke German and have a Bohemian-ish last name. There is a VERY good chance that they were in fact from Prussia or at least the Hapsburg Empire/Austria-Hungary.

Oh well, I digress!!

No, we don't have one as of yet. I'm in the process of getting a new computer, and when I understand it (I'm so techno-impaired!), I'd like to build one.

I did take the Volunteer Genealogist class that the NSDAR teaches, and volunteer a couple times a year (supplementals). I am giving seminars on how to fill out applications properly, good sources, and such - and am having a blast doing it! I've given three, and am scheduled for four more. I think I can get a Speaker's pin if I do 12 seminars!

I'm working on TWO supplementals (for myself) right now!

(edited for clarity)
