Should I buy a Tivo

I'll probably buy it anyway, but I thought I would let people with Tivo experience weigh in.

What really appeals to me is being able to tape the whole seasons for all the shows I like with the season pass thingy, and never have to worry about setting the VCR, or making it home in time for a show. Tivo is like regaining my viewer empowerment (sorry, reading some revolutionary biographies recently!)

Anyway, thoughts?

Yes, buy it and bid your VCR adieu!

I have a TiVo/Direct TV combo and I love it! Plus, being able to fast forward through commercials (while a shoe is airing) is a great plus.

Exclamation

Stealth Marketing -- ad companies pay internet users to work certain products into conversations in order to promote the products.

So the question to the threads author: How much money does it pay to do this?

Okay, I'm not sure anymore if this is spam or not, but...

We looked at the Tivo and the Replay TV, and decided to get the Replay. It was cheaper, and it seems to have more useful features. You still get the season pass thing, and it has a longer recording time (I think ours can record up to 120 hours). The only feature it doesn't have that I would like is being able to see a list of everything you're recording that day.

I fought Mr. Ginger on buying it... I couldn't see spending $400 on a "glorified VCR"... but it really is worth it

Good Lord people are sensitive. I was just asking for some advice from fellow GC ers, if that is spam sue me.
I see why so many people complain about these forums.

Thank you Ginger, Honeykiss, and adpialumcsuc for giving me a reply. I'll look into Replay TV as well. I have cable so I doubt I want to go the whole Directv tivo route, cuz that means I would have to sign up for DIrect Tv no?

From my understanding there is TiVo for both Satelite and Cable TV. So if you currently have cable, you should be ok.

Hmm, I've never heard of Replat TV either, so I may check it out!

My dad has a TiVO, and I have the ReplayTV. The thought concept is great....Customer Service sucks for ReplayTV though...Advance warning!!!!

We have our Replay hooked up to our digital cable... I don't think it has anything to do with satellite

If you don't like replay, does your dad like tivo? what does he use it for most? what do you tape?

I don't watch all that much tv, but the shows I watch (Scrubs, Carnivale, Sopranos reruns, Monster Garage, World Poker Tour, Joe schmoe), i never am home when most of them are on, and programming the vcr is a nightmare.

Does he use it for sports or tv shows?
