I love you guys! My chapter had a sisterhood retreat this weekend and one of our big well aware focuses was breast cancer! One of our new memebers' mom is currently fighting the battle as well (her prognosis is very positive!!). It was a great activity for the chapter! We all got these metal pink ribbon pins and many girls are wearing them through out the month! I love my sisters - both near and far!

I did Run for the Cure on Sunday (I think in the USA, they call it Race for the Cure. My goal was to run the full 5 km (that's 3 miles for my American sisters.... ) without stopping and I did!

www.cbcf.org

It was a VERY emotional experience, and I wavered between the elation of the "runner's high" with that of intense sadness. I don't know if the Runs do this in the USA, but in addition to your running number, you also can wear a "I'm Running For _____" bib.
I filled out the name of a woman in Junior League who was just diagnosed about 2 months ago with Breast Cancer and then my sewing teacher who lost her battle with it. The bibs look like this and it's very emotional to see how many people are touched directly and indirectly by Breast Cancer.

I ran last year (2002) in June for my mother and for another teacher at the school she taught at with (by the way, over 75 teachers from their school came out to run for them). When June rolled around this year, I just wasn't ready for it yet. I think I could do it now, but I had a lot of anger in me near race time. The race is such a cellebration of surviving, and my mom didn't. That made me mad that so many people were allowed to live and my mom was taken from me. I guess at my frist race, I saw the survivors and I thought to myself that my mom would be here next year - and she'd be here as a survivor...but it didn't happen...

All that being said, I've sorted through all of those feeling and I'd be thrilled to run again! I plan on being out there in full force next June! I am going to run in the competition next year as opposed to just the fun run 5k.
