Tried to ask about this earlier and no one answered...
I was wondering if anyone had caught a screening of the Veronica Guerin movie that comes next month. I wrote a paper on her for a journalism class a few years ago, and I am glad that a movie is being done on her life. I think it is out in the UK and a few other places, but I am not sure. Anyone seen it? I want to know how good this one is... I heard rumors that Cate Blanchett is going to win an Oscar for it, but you all know how hype goes... Thanks though...

Not yet, at least... All I know is Veronica Guerin was whacked for her in depth reporting of Dublin's drug underworld in 1996. The film won't open in the US until October 17. I'm certain it's already out in the UK and Ireland, though.
Oscar hype is just PR hype. If it is worthy of an Oscar nomination, we'll see in February when the nominations come out.

I saw the commercial for "Veronica Guerin" thinking that it is a remake of another movie that I saw. I knew the story is real so I thought perhaps that is why it seems familiar. Actually, there was a movie called "When the Sky Falls" starring Joan Allen loosely based on Veronica Guerin's story. I saw that and it was good and depressing.
This movie will probably be considered for Oscars when it is released if it is any good. The story is true and important. She was a very brave woman. I won't reveal any more than that for people who want to see the movie and don't know her life story.

This movie does look good. When does it come out? Isn't Disyney putting out another movie called Brother Bear too? I saw a preview for it the other day and it looked really good. I'm a fan of animated movies!!

Cream & LSU... This is to you...
Cream,
It isn't a remake, but a better version of the story. It has the same character obviously, b/c it is a true story. Like you said, it might win an Oscar if it is as great as it is rumored to be. I was hoping to catch a screening somewhere, but I think I will most likely have to wait till the 17th. I know it has Blanchett, and Colin Farrell, who else???
LSUquadkid,
Brother Bear is supposed to be great actually. I am not too informed on what it is about, but have read many magazines that have recommended it! What is the deal w/ it?

Sounds like Erin Brokovich, only a little more serious in terms of subject matter.
Didn't I hear that Collin Farrell had a cameo in this?

Here is the listing on imdb.
I was thinking about Erin Brockovich, too. There are some similarities. A woman takes on the system, working for a greater good. I hope that Veronica Guerin is a good movie.
Thanks for clearing that up, krazy. I realized that this movie isn't a remake, but that didn't come across in my post.

Oh I know..
I figured that if you were familiar w/ the former movie, that you would be aware of that. I just didn't want others to think that it was just a crappy re-do. I think it will be one of the best this year for sure, and I hope it does well. It will be better than Erin Brockovich b/c it will be lacking the comic relief. Not that comedies are not good, but this is a little more serious. It will be the bomb, if you will.

I think the subject matter is just more cinematic for this-- slums of Dublin drug trade vs. water legal case.
Cate Blanchett is getting a lot of praise for the performance too, I've heard her name in oscar discussions in some articles.

I heard Veronica Guerin was good. That's on my list to see.. Did anybody see Brother Bear? I thought it was good. My little brother loved it. It was really funny at points. I think Disney did a good job with it!
