Alcohol Education Ideas

Ok, so I am now the Risk Management adviser and I would really like some new ideas for alcohol awareness education. I think the stuff the chapter I advise does is from the years I was a collegiate. Any creative or new ideas out there? I would love to hear from all of you! Thanks and roses to you all!

Alcohol Education

Hi fellow Risk Management Chair:

Some of the things that I use the most are the local campus police; they have a really great presentation that is informative and fun! ( you could also try other campus health organizations) You could also check online for alcohol awareness hand outs or check with the panhellenic website to see if they have any alcohol awareness tapes that your could use....or last but not least, there is always the info in Alcohol101

Good Luck, and feel free to PM me or email me if you have any questions or more ideas you would like to bounce off someone!

Roses and Risk Management love,

Lacey

Great ideas! Our campus police and local police have great information and programs and they are able to share their first-hand knowledge about things they've seen in our community. That is usually an eye-opener to the women. The university should also have a substance abuse prevention program/department that could serve as a great resource.

One thing I feel is extremely important to teach our women is the signs of alcohol poisoning and when to seek professional help. College students are usually new to drinking and do not know their limits, putting them at risk for alcohol poisoning.

Another good item to cover with the women is date-rape drugs. There are several types out there: Roofies(Rohypnol), GHB, and even Ecstasy. These are easy to find on college campuses and are becoming very common. Rohypnol can be purchased over the counter in Mexico as a sleeping aid, and it the U.S. dealers sell it is as cheap as $2 a pill. GHB is a clear liquid that is odorless and can be made with household chemicals.

The more information we can give our women, the more empowered they will be to make good choices.

Good luck and LMK if you need any help!

Most victim advocate groups (located through your local courts system) has former victims of alcohol-related tragedies who will come in and give their testimony. It is really moving to hear first-hand from victims. It was a huge wake up call for many young women during college orientation.

we just had an alcohol education last week. it was pretty cool, because they had the campus police come in and present it. they brought lots of literature for us, and these things called "beer goggles" which they let us try on and try to walk a straight line to let us see what your motor skills REALLY are like when your incapacitated. the whole presentation only took about 40 minutes and wasnt boring at all, and was just the right length so no one lost attention.
