today the university of nevada las vegas will officially start recruitmnet.

the parties will not start until tommorow, but today is like an open house/slideshow/fashion show type of deal. i went through recruitment as a pnm in fall of 2001, then was on the other side fall 2002 and now im on the other other side as a rho chi. i am in good spirits that this year recruitment will go smoothly. we have adpi, agd, azd, dz, and sk. the theme is "no matter which way you go you cant go wrong" here is how it breaks down:

September 4, thursday
open house

september 5, friday
all panhellenic day

september 6,saturday
philanthropy day

september 7,sunday
preference

september 8, monday
BID DAY

i will tell you how every room looks and how im doing as a rho chi.....till next time....

Oh yay!!! I didn't realize you were a Rho Chi this year!!!! Where the heck have I been.....I can't wait to hear how it all goes!!

While SKqueen will post from the Sigma Rho Chi side I'll try to let you know about the chapter side. Tonight we are wearing a panhellenic t-shirt that all chapters have to wear, from my understanding their red, white and black. (I haven't seen them) we will be wearing them with dark jean knee length skirts or capris with all black flip-flops. Since the shirts are in our school colors (scarlett and gray) we are doing a UNLV sports theme so we will be wearing UNLV tattoes (you know the kind you wear to a footbal game) on our faces or arms or whatever. The tables (we don't have a house, we use a room on campus, where we cover the walls in paper and lay down carpet) will also be sports themed, UNLV posters pom-poms, footballs general UNLV sports stuff I believe the table covers are made form green indoor outdoor carpet so they look like sports fields. I'm really excited about this theme. 1)because of my rebel pride 2) because it's a good themethat goes with our shirts (every year the shirts are these colors and we have no say in what they look like, and the general theme is go greek, so why not go greek and UNLV) 3) the first day is no frills( we can only have one color paper on the walls, carpet and five tables, no balloons or anything besides paper on the walls and this theme will work well. alright ladies sorry for the delay, but everything ran a little late. so all rho chis wore the red tishirt with denim. the girls started coming around five. in my group we have 30 potentials and the parties were sopposed to start at 6 but didnt due to stragglers and started at 610. every room was gorgeous. all of them were the same concept but every chapter added a little touch of personality. dz wore skirts, agd wore trucker hats that had alpha gamma delta written out, azd had blck visors with sparkley letters on them , and adpi had denim on. i was the door person today and had to talk to the advisors and some advisors cant get a little mean but i handled myself. the first party a 2pnms didnt have name tags and cards that i started to freak out. we had a wait a little and got their stuff, but i gave one girl my nametag and she just flipped over the paper. then i went through the day without seeing sigma kappa and they were the last ones. i couldnt tell you how much joy i had to see my girls and how hard they worked, but i could not run up and hug them. i was so sad that as soon as they closed the door i started tearing up. i couldnt help it, i wanted to be in the room with my sisters, but you have to understand that i am an emotional person and i cry at everything. so the day was almost over but we had to stay so much later. we couldnt leave until the lists were in and that was 30 minutes ago. tommorrow is philanthropy day and i will be at school at 8 then not come home until like 12 so along day ahead of me. alright bye till next time

Today is our violets in bloom theme, I'm not sure what our philanthropy project is. Our room has lavender lattice all the way around the room with flowers intertwined with blown up pictures of us. There are tissue paper flowers hanging from the ceiling with light blue gauze type frabic to make it look like sky. we also have ballons today. we have an archway at the entrance that is covered in purple flowers. The front of the room as a white picket fence where we put the finished projects. We use tables and they are covered in lavender and maroon table clothes with flower centerpieces. We are wearing black skirts or capris dressy sandals, and purple or white shirts with SK on them. I'll update later.

philanthropy day!!!!
ok today was really hectic. the system was new so everyone had to get trained. then we had to print a million and one sheets of paper. when all the girls came was when it started to calm down. my girls are so awesome but dont feel like opening up. i have a few girls that could ask me anything but the majority dont like asking questions. hopefully tommorrow they decide to ask for my advice if they really are torn.
all the rooms were gorgeous. agd "red buff and green for the red white and blue" they adopted a platoon in iraq and made care packages.........so cute. adpi had a jungle theme with lions and a kick a$$ ceiling. vines and strings were haging down and they wore different animal print letters. azd had a teddy bear picnic theme and decorated things with rhinestones. dz was so classy and did dz in the city. the table tops were all decorated with different types of bags. sk was so bright and flowery. so cute.

tommorrow is pref so another long day. then i will post as soon as i get home.......bye

alright recruitment is over!!!!!!!!!! i had so much fun yesterday night and so much fun today. we sigma rho chis bonded and i actually felt like we were one big sorority. everything went really well and smoothly. i was stuck being a door person and was all by myself. it was so long.

rooms
agd-beautiful, fountain, cocktail with barstools and martinis.
adpi- gorgeous, violet pathway, diamond fountain,
azd- pink and red candles, white table tops, wonderful
dz- pretty in pink and white, white table tops
sk-wonderful, black and asian style. classy, white covered slipped chairs with black tieings, words cannot describe the classiness of our room

what they thought i am
i have a lot of adpis, some azd, 1 agd, and 3 sigma kappas
so no one thinks im sig kap and most of my girls think im adpi. so hopefully i will swich letters with someone so i can trick them.hehehehhe

all right.........its been a fun weekend and i know its will be a kicka$$ recruitment

last day of recruitment was so hard for me. i was filled with emotion that i couldnt let the new girls see all weekend. i had to deal with some crying girls who werent happy with their bids and that was hard. then the rho chis did reveal. we had our letters on under our rho chi letters. everyone guessed i was agd or adpi so it shocked everyone that i wasnt them. when i pulled off my letters everyone started to scream.........all the sig kap girls were happy i was in their chapter. i did our sign where we put our thumbs together, our pointer fingers like a heart, our middle fingers together like a triangle and the other two are free to represent dove wings. then we were the first ones to run out from the union and go to our chapter. we were singing "sigma kappa sigma kappa we love you........" i started to cry, because i was filled with emotions. i was happy cuz i was back and we got quality girls and sad for my girls who didnt get the chapter they wanted. i couldnt stop crying for 10 min, i felt like such a baby. then we took the all sorority picture

so we got qouta+3!!!! i am so happy for my girls. this year is the first year we got quota plus in all the years we have been on campus. dont get me wrong we always get quota or snap bid to quota, but this year we did such a great job. our tshirts were pink and maroon cap sleeves. they said in the front "sweet home sigma kappa....bid day 2003" and then on the back said "if you think im cute wait till you see my sisters!" we also got maroon bandanas w/ lavender sigma kappa letters on it. we all went to this restaurant called memphis barbq and had a great time. we took a lot of pictures and hopefully i will post one when i get the film developed. so my long rush thread is over finally. until next year........one heart one way.........."whos the best sorority at u...n...l...v!!!!!"

this was my first formal recruitment, i went thru in the spring of 2003 .. and it was the most fun ive ever had. i learned so much about everything and everyone .. i did miss my rho chi sigkapqueen though .. but shes back & we are in full force again!! we rocked with new memebers this semester too, its so awesome to be able to be a part of this whole thing

a big thanks goes out to sueali too for all her help ... i luv u!!
