Angry Problems

I didn't want to post this in the other forums because I didn't want it to become huge and risk getting back to people at my school.

The problem is my fiance wants to go inactive from his chapter partly because of financial issues and situlations that are going on in the chapter. At our school, rent for a crusty fraternity house is $120,000 and their advisor refuses to allow them to move off campus to cheaper housing that they could look into and afford. They are low in numbers, as are most fraternities on our campus, and barely break even on the rent. Last year, they were almost moved out by the university for owing $20,000. Half the in house brothers do not pay their fees while the out of house brothers (my fiance) are expected to pay $200 dollars a month towards the rent of the house. They can't even afford to have band parties or mixers and when they do, everyone pays out of pocket for those. Everything paid goes into the rent and a little bit for rush, but nothing else. He has talked to them about going inactive because he really does not have the time or money to spend on the fraternity (last year we went to two parties, one we spent $40 dollars on liquor to bring and the other was a small band party grab a date with a local artist that was like $40 to go to)
Well he has told them for two weeks he would be inactive, but would help out with rush and any event we came to, we would pay for like everyone else. Well one of our good friends told him last night that because he was inactive, he couldn't come around the house anymore because people wouldn't think it was fair. (His friend is treasurer and in an awful position) I was really surprised that he was told this because I would think they would still value his company and brotherhood. They are supposed to be his friends. Also, in the past, brothers have been allowed to go inactive and still pay for events and even live in the house for a reduced rate. Sometimes, we all will go to bars together and hang out (a lot of OUR sisters join them) Will we no longer be welcomed at it? I know most of the guys won't care if we go and hangout with them at the house and definetly not the bars, but off the top of my head I see three that have a problem with it. It just makes me not want to have anything to do with them as my friends anymore.
In my chapter, we would have girls go inactive, but we were still all friends. They still got to know the code to the house door and invited to our fun nights out. If we had a cook out, they would bring something and join us. Actually, I have met so many of my chapters wonderful alumni through this and consider them my friends as well as sisters.

It just bugs me and makes me greatful for what I have. (my chapter closed the year I joined) I can't believe people I have known through college would dismiss us like this.

Thank you so much for listening to me vent. I really just needed to get it off my chest. I hope I didn't air too much personal chapter information, but most chapters on frat court are having the same problem

AOE
Jennifer
