Another Charlotte Athlete "GONE"

Hello Sorors and SF's,

Just wanted to express my sympathy for the Lane family. I was really shocked when I heard about the death of Mr. Lane. I live in Charlotte Suburb of Matthews. I guess this is so hard for me to handle for many reasons. One because the Curruth incident and now the Lane killing all happened within a mile from my home. I have young boys and I just really wonder how they are receiving all of this.

Charlotte Police said the Lane's wife Diedre shot him. My heart goes out to this young sister, the pain and confusion she must be experiencing.

Sorors & SF's please take a moment a pray for the Lane family and our black men as a whole.

I heard about the death of Fred Lane yesterday. Yes, this is another unfortunate incident involving one of our athletes. I read in the newspaper this morning that he was just 24 years old and his wife is 25. In addition, she had just given birth to a daughter seven days ago. It's been noted that this probably resulted from a domestic violence incident. How sad.

Excuse my ignorance Sorors...but who is Fred Lane? Apparently he is a pro athlete. What team does he play for? I will send up my prayers for the family.

Fred Lane is pro-football player. He played for the Carolina Panthers, but was recently traded to the Colts.

That was an unfortunate incident on both parts. Yes, Soror Deja, there seems to be alot of things happening in Charlotte. I am still reminded of the Bobby Phills accident. You all know his widow, Kendall, is a soror. ...You never know...we must pray all day, everyday!

Hello all,
you know his wife was from Columbia, and her parents house is right around the block from mine, and the news crews were staked out at the house for hours trying to get a glimpse of her family. Of course no one was home, they were/are probably in Charlotte to help support their daughter. On the local news here, they said that the wife had recently filed a domestic violence complaint against him, but later had it dropped, and that there are several incidents of domestic disputes b/t the couple.
They also said that they hadn't concluded whether or not they were going to press charges...sounds to me like something may have went down, and she was trying to protect herself and possibly her newborn. Of course, nothing was confirmed and all of this is speculation. I hope that justice is served and I PRAY for this child who is so incredibly innocent and unaware of what his life and future will be like.

P.S. Did anyone hear that they also found Julius Erving's son...they found him in his car in a lake...I also lift him and his family up in my prayers and I know that all my SF's will do the same...

Yes, I heard that Dr. J's son was found. I was hoping that he would be ok. My heart goes out to that family as well.

But back to the Fred Lane story for a moment. I read in the newspaper that in addition to the 7-day old daughter his wife just had, the man also has a three year old and 6-month old daughters back in Tennessee. Now, is there something wrong with that picture or what?

Akatude, there is truly something wrong with this picture. I too heard about Fred Lane's other kids. The one thing I have not heard is how long the couple was married? Does anyone know? The paper here reported that Deidra also has a 5-year old from a previous relationship.

Onesavvydiva, what part of Columbia is Deidra from (which HS did she attend?)? I have relatives in Columbia, specifically a cousin who could possibly know her.

One other thing...
The news and papers here are also reporting that Fred Lane was convicted on a drug charge (a misdemeanor) in Jackson,TN on the day before he was shot. He returned from Jackson to Charlotte around 2:00PM and his wife called to report that he had been shot at 3:00PM.

That this whole situation had to happen at all is sad, but I think there is a lesson in all of this for a lot people.

All parties involved have been and will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

Hello Sorors and SF's

Today in church I learned that the Lane's were/are members of the church I attend. Also, they live one neighborhood over from me. Most people who have no clue as to the pain some are going through. This is truely the time to uplift our sisters....ALL sisters. What is it that make us cling to men who treat us less than.....Not taking away from the seriousness of an untimely death, however, this is the question that ring in my heart.

What is the American Dream? We seem to go through hell and high waters to make it a reality. TO THINE OWNSELF BE TRUE! There is nothing on this earth that should make us to believe we, as black women, are less than. A man's presence in your life does not love make.


LOVE DOES NOT HURT! CELEBRATE YOURSELVES, WE ARE NOT ALWAYS GOING TO FINE SOMEONE TO CELEBRATE US---CELEBRATE YOURSELVES!

Mine too, Soror --- I shot you an email. I vaguely remember seeing him there during one of the services. This is sad and shocking. I read that his wife had originally planned a memorial service for him that has been cancelled. THAT part I didn't understand (the planning, not the cancelling). It's an awful lesson that life is not guaranteed and fame and fortune does not ensure happiness.

The entire ordeal is so strange. Did the Observer state whether or not Diedre Lane will be charged?

The Lane's live off Mckee Road. So much has happened in that neighborhood. I am almost puzzled by it all.....I hate to spectulate about such serious matters.

Deja, I know what you mean. Whatever the case may be, it is awful that it ended with death --- once someone is gone, we can't bring them back. And they both were so young. I am praying for Deidre's healing as well as for his family. I believe the police are still investigating, so they're currently not charging her. Yesterday's online paper said that she had once had an attempted robbery charge against her, but I don't know how true that is since an outcome of that case was never listed. They also stated today that the Lanes had separated, and that according to his father he was returning that day to sell one of the bikes for money. Check out www.charlotte.com. They seem to be running something daily on this.

I read in the newspaper this weekend where someone was quoted as describing Fred Lane as "mature". I think they both had a lot of growing to do before entering into marriage. I would like to know how long they were married as well. I just can't get over the fact that he has a 6-month old! Cheating or beating on your wife does not make a man mature (the same goes for a woman).

Exactly. How can you call a cheating husband mature? Lane's father seem to be very negative where Diedre is concerned. The 5 year old is Lane's biological son.

Pray for Diedre & Fred! She is hurting more than we will ever know.
