Officer Problems

Hello sisters. I am a fairly active poster on this site (well, not too recently), but due to the fact that I am going to tell you some stuff about my chapter, and I am embarrased at the way they are acting right now, I chose to register a new screen name and post under it instead for the time being.

We are having serious problems with our chapter right now, and it is mainly due to two or three key members, that also happen to have very important, and influential offices in the chapter. These certain members have a little club of thier own, and they pretty much hate everyone else in the sorority, unless you choose to kiss thier @$$es.

Due to drama dealing with LAST november's elections, this division has created complete hell for the chapter. we have tried passing the gavel, extra sisterhoods, and even tried to take it above our heads and talk to our CNS. Some of our members have even confronted one, or all of the girls and asked why they are treating the rest of the group this way, and the three just choose to completely ignore that anything wrong is even going on, but these girls will not even say hi when we pass them on the street, let alone go hang out with the rest of the chapter. I think that officers such as these should at least have a little more maturity than this, and suck it up and do their jobs. We have had five girls turn in thier pins over this summer due to all the drama, and I am considering it too. This is a large number, considering our sorority only maked up about 35 members.

Members that i have talked to are sick of the stuff that is going on, and have tried petitioning to our alum advisory board. The board tells us that they are aware of the problem, but that there is nothing they can do about it.

I was just wondering, when something like this happens, what can we do to get the sorority back together besides just waiting for these girls to graduate or finding a way for them to get out of office before this november? I am extremely concerned that it will affect our rush this fall, and this is a problem, because already we end up between 15 and 20 under quota every year.

Please, give me some advice that I ca pass on to the girls who want our sorority to be the way it used to be.

pinkaoii, I'm so sorry to read of your situation. My heart aches to learn about such a sad time for our sisters, especially for one of our smaller chapters. Check your PM box when you read this

Hugs and Roses,
Christin

Pinkaoii, please see your PM box. I know the struggle for smaller chapters is difficult already - I hope this can be resolved soon.

ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGHHHH

Well, we had our rush workshop this weekend, and after I really thought things were going well and everyone was getting along, more bad news has occured.

(post edited by the Moderator)

I dont want to bring this up, because every time i try to point things out like this no one will listen. all the girls (especially the girls that get to do all the songs) want to try to ignore it and act like there is nothing going on, or that they dont want to get involved in what is going on. eve some of the girls in MY group dont want to get involved because they are so used to this kind of (stuff) that has been pulled lately. we even had a little sisterhood event in which we told what we loved about aoii. well, almost every single girl stressed how diverse we were, and how we didnt discriminate, and we were not superficial about who can be an aoii and who cannot, and then twenty minutes later we are dividing into two very OBVIOUS groups (for recruitment skit purposes).

i just dont know what to do anymore. i am so hurt. i dont like crying bc of soething a SISTER did to me, and i HATE seeing another one of my sisters cry.

pinkaoii,

I wish there was some special Sisterhood Magic that we could spread and make things better for you. Recruitment in and of itself can be a very stressful thing. One thing you may want to remember--no matter how lousy it can be to admit--you'll find every sorority on any campus wants to put their 'best faces forward' during Recruitment. Sure, it's superficial, but that is a part of everyday life. You could have a chapter filled with beauty queens and not everyone could (or should!) be in the skit, and some of the ones in the skit would still have to be in the back row!

I can't find any other advice to give you other than what I shared with you privately. My thoughts and very best wishes are with you and your chapter, pinkaoii. Good luck to you all, and many Roses toward a successful resolution of these issues and a successful Fall Recruitment!

Roses,
Christin

Would it be possible to have the three songs split up in a way that everyone gets equal participation.

Song 1 -Everybody (Groups A and B)
Song 2- Group A
Song 3- Group B

This worked for our chapter when we used to do skits/dances at Theme. We did however have try-outs and songs two and three differed a little in difficulty so that way the sisters who were more comfortable and had more dance experence were put in the group with the more difficult moves. It worked well because everyone was involved in two dances and had a good time. Nobody was left out. It might be to late to do this sort of thing for the coming up recruitment but keep it in mind for future events/recruitments. Good luck with your attempts to improve chapter harmony!!!!

Also, the CR chair passes around a "Zen Panda" at each chapter meeting. It is to recoginze the sister who helps "keep the peace" in the chapter. Just another idea your chapter might could impliment.

Roses,
Sarah

This may or may not work, but I would recommend havinga B*itch session! Instead of saying everything that you love about AOII say what is bothering you about the chapter. The key is having someone keep control of the circle sot hat it doesn't get too heated. Each person could say one thing that is bothering them, what they would do to see it changed and then end on a positive note saying what they love about the chapter (and it would have to be something specific - nothing vague like diversity). There is no time for discussion because that leads to bickering. . . .

Just a thought. Another thought is that this is getting to be a little too much detail for such a public board. . . .this is something that really should either be on Sisters Online if you want outside chapter advise and/or your Chapter Relations committee. . . .

Roses!

Sarah, thanks for being the voice of reason. You are so right.

I'm very lucky to be moderator of the AOII forum, because our sisters go above and beyond portraying themselves in a positive light on GC. We are supportive women and conduct ourselves well so I don't have any messes to deal with in here, or Chit Chat comments to address

Having said that, I'm putting my Forum Moderator hat on and locking this down for the time being, after editing a few replies (including my own!) The intent is not to limit our conversation or because of a lack of support for pinkaoii's situation at all! I hope that this thread will be shared via Sisters Online or PMs.

If any of you have any questions, PM me, my box is cleaned out and waiting for you because I love ya'll.

Roses,
Christin
