New Cell Phone TOMORROW???

Need some quick thoughts...

Through a promo (and my friend's older sister), I can get a new cell phone for free, with three options (I'd prolly get free incoming calls, free nights and weeks, and free long distance) for like $30 a month...But the promo ends tomorrow and I'm not positive what I should do...I reallllly would like to have a cell phone again...But I'd have to sign a contract for TWO YEARS!!!! Granted, once I get a cell again, I'm sure I'll have no problem wanting to keep it for two years or longer, but its just being locked in that kills me... But I do love centennial, so I'm not weary of that. My only other qualm, I think, is that what if I go back to school?? If I have free logn discance that's all fine and dandy, but not everyone is going to want to call ME long distance. I don't know....But I need to figure it out by tomorrow...

Questions you should ask:

If you're moving in the next 2 years, will this cell phone be useable in the area you may move to?

Can you afford it?

How much does new equipment cost if yours breaks, is lost or stolen? (insurance may be the way to go on a 2-year contract)

What company is it with? Check with another dealer of the same company, many times one dealer will give you a shorter term than another. In my current job I sell Cingular and on a whim can give 1 year or 2 year contracts -- and *I* personally never do a 2-year unless the plan requires it. The folks up at Wal-Mart probably don't even know what a 1-year contract is.

Yeah I dunno about a two year contract. The deal does sound pretty good but I'm sure that you can find something better out there that more suits your needs. If not now, maybe in a few months. If you do go back to school I'm sure there will be a bunch of deals thrown your way as a student. At least here during the school someone is ALWAYS trying to sell something, ESPECIALLY cell phones

i'm actually one year into the two year contract i signed. i have had no problems with signing it since it would be my main phone and i use it for all my long distance.

if you are worried about going back to school and having a long distance number for when you are there, check to see if when you get there, they'll let you switch to what would be a local number for there. some services will allow you to do that, i know mine does.

At this point in your life, a two-year contract goes pretty fast. Who is the carrier anyway?

And most places will let you switch your number when you move to a new area. As long as it's a major provider of course. When I would go home for summers, AT&T would switch my number from a 321 area code to a 847 number, and hold my 321 number for up to 6 months.

That is a pretty sweet deal... There has to be a catch, though, aside from the 2-year contract (which really isn't all that big of a deal). Who is the carrier? An established name like Verizon or AT&T, or a newcomer?

<semi-hijack>
One thing I learned about Verizon: Go to Radio Shack, not a Verizon outlet. When I decided to replace my clunker with a Startac, I went to a Verizon store and they wanted $200 for the phone... went over to RS and they only wanted $70. Both required the same contract (1-year, IIRC).
</semi-hijack>

ETA: Looks like we cross-posted. I've never heard of Centennial... what is their coverage area? Does it include home, school, and anywhere you're likely to travel? What if you move away from their coverage area before the 2-year contract is up? What are their rates for airtime, long distance, and roaming?

Try to find out if you can get new phone numbers as well, like change of area code and stuff like that, to solve the "long distance" problem.

It appears that they offer service in:
Indiana
Michigan
Ohio
Texas
Louisiana
Mississippi

Will you be staying in Indiana for the next 2 years, or not?

I don't think I would ever sign a 2-year deal! I don't even like the 1-year deals!

You can get a GoPhone from AT&T Wireless-great plans and NO CONTRACT! It's not a pre-paid deal. It's an actual phone with monthly plans. Just provide them with a debit or credit card # and they automatically charge your account monthly. Check out AT&T Wireless .

You may also want to check out Virgin Wireless. They have the same thing-pay as you go. Virgin Wireless .

Another option is Sprint PCS. You can get a month-to-month agreement for $10 more added to your rate plan monthly. Sprint PCS

Hope these help!
