I know this sounds nasty, but in all seriousness, plain yogurt works wonders.

I use Jason's Witch Vera . Try it refridgerated. For some reason the combination of Witchhazel and Aloe help heal the skin faster than Aloe with lotion or aloe by itself.
They sell Jason products at most health food stores or Whole Foods markets.

My grandma would always use natural aloe vera (straight from the plant!). It's kinda slimey, but works wonders on almost anything it touches! (not the outside of the plant.. that would hurt. I'm talking about the gooey inside of the plant!)

Viniger works well but for the face or really spotty bad areas I'll simply apply Neosporin. It cuts down on burning. It actually aleviates my sunburn by the next day - may make you look really greasy red but oh well. Apply it at night and feel better in the morning.
Things I know TO AVOID are:
-many showers (dries up the skin)
-crappy lotions (b&bw and Victorias secret stuff) BAD. Use a Vaseline intensive care from the Green bottle (think it says something about having lipids). Dunno why but the past times I've severly burned my body and used that lotion it felt really good and cut down on the burning. Most other lotions trap in the heat so that's why I said don't use something perfumed.

Also don't forget to take some Ibuprofin (or Tylenol) which will help relieve some of the swelling.

Aloe is great. I burned myself badly with boiling water, and I don't have the slightest scar now.
I like Solarcaine that you can spray on. It numbs the burn and you don't have to touch it.

Aloe, aloe, and more aloe.
I get burned pretty easily, and aloe makes me feel a ton better, as well as helps the burn heal faster.
Put it in the fridge before you use it, it works even better to soothe the pain.

Or asprin. My dermotologist once told me that when you get sunburned your body has to spend a big chunk of your immune system repairing the damage. That leaves you vulnerable to other crap. Asprin (Or I imagine, Tylenol) Helps your body fight off other crap. It appearntly bolsters your immune system and helps speed the healign process along.
Worth a try.
I got a little pink from sititng out by the pool sunday. Its not bad, but its still around, so its one of the more serious burns I have had in a few years. I just look so much healtier being slightly brown instead of pastey white boy color. once I get some color in me, I'll brown up right quick. I just wish I coudl do it w/out the burn I got sunday. I was only out for 2 hours, and in the late afternoon - 2:30 to 4:30. never wouldda thought I could have burned so fast.

As a redhead, I've had more than my share of bad sunburns & sun poisoning! Noxema is totally evil - avoid it like the plague!
Salesclerks always laugh at me when I do this, but every time I buy sunscreen, I also buy Solarcaine (shows you how much confidence I have in sunscreens, doesn't it?). It's a spray, so you don't even have to touch your poor skin. Anyhow, it's made specifically for sunburn, and although it smells just awful when you spray it on, you'll feel the relief in minutes.
Just remember, suntans & sunburns will age your skin faster than anything known to man! Skin cancer is NOT sexy!

Corn Huskers Lotion!
I had a friend whose sister was a chemist and she went into the drug store and scanned the ingredients of all the lotions to see which would be best - from an ingredients stand point - for sunburn. She found Corn Huskers Lotion to be just that. A LOT of lotions (even 'good' ones) have alcohol in them which is terribly drying! And they are so thick it hurts to put them on.
You can get Corn Huskers Lotion at any drugstore. It's comes in a clear plastic bottle with a yellow label. It looks like snot. And it's slimy at first, but it definitely keeps you hydrated and goes on really easily - unlike creamier lotions.
Good luck!

I try to put on sunblock with an SPF of at least 15 before I leave the house. Prevention is really important. Don't forget your ears, nose, feet, toes, and scalp.
