OMG, I've asked this same question MANY times. I don't get it at all. They should know better.

I totally get it. It's drag queen worship. Plus - it's all about drama and Cher has had a VERY drama-filled life.

Of course, I'm convinced I was a gay man in another life, so that might be why I get it.

I have insight into the gay male community, lol.

I think they like her because she is a diva. I know when I go to the club with my best friend and they play Cher, they guys go CRAZY.

Also, maybe because her image is reflective somewhat of the gay male community at large?

I understand it, but it isn't necessarily something I can put into words.

If you spend any time at a gay club, you might be able to better relate, I think.

I was beginning to get worried....

1:30 CDT and we've officially had our first steryotypical viewpoint of the day.

Dood. My brother is gay and hes not a fan of cher. You are speaking of a SEGMENT of their community. Not all gay dudes like cher. Not all lezbians like to work in construction, etc. Get the picture?

I didn't see anyone say ALL gay men like Cher. I think when valkyrie said "all" she meant all the gay men who DO.

Just like everything else, there are exceptions. But GENERALLY SPEAKING Cher seems to be very popular within the gay culture.

Yeah it seems like those who dress drag (gay or not) idolize her because she's able to changer herself and mold her image into many different things.

There are some (not all) gay men who are fans of Cher, Judy, Liza, and Barbra. The men who happen to be gay who happen to be fans of Cher love her for some of the reasons that librasoul outlined. Plus, in Moonstruck Cher played a character who reinvented herself and changed her life despite the disapproval of family and friends. She was true to herself and made herself happy. Some gay men can relate to that. She also got Nic Cage at the end, and all sorts of people including some gay men like him. That's what I have heard.

My boyfriend who is not gay loves Cher. He perks up everytimes he hears her music or sees her on tv. It's really cute.
