Sigma Alpha Epsilon Pi @ Miami of Ohio

I was browsing through Miami of Ohio's website and there is a Sigma Alpha Epsilon Pi Interest Group formed there.....
Does anyone else know any more about this? I guess I'm just really surprised that SAEPi came all the way out here to Ohio from California...

On the Sorority Life reunion special, Becca mentioned that about 15 schools had expressed interest in opening SAEPi chapters. They also said that they were looking into setting up a national advisory board to work on these expansions. Both Leslie and Leah were going to be on the advisory board, theoretically. So if that actually happened, I wouldn't be surprised that the sorority might start establishing chapters in places other than California.

I got into the Office of Greek Life website. I believe that I had to do a search for Greeks because Miami's student organization page is messed up. Just go under fraternities and sororities once you get in there and it lists all the chapters.

I think that it's wonderful that SAEPi is expanding to other parts of the country.

Aside from the drama we witnessed [courtesy of MTV!], you could still see the sisterhood.

I'm glad that they're looking to spread the sisterhood to other campuses.

Good luck to SAEPi!

I definately agree that besides the little drama we saw on MTV, you could totally see the sisterhood throughout the season of SAEPi. They seemed like a nice bunch!

I'm not so sure about DZO though.. I only saw their sisterhood like the last 5 minutes of the finale.

Like I said during last season, the SAEPi girls didn't come off too badly. Yes, they had some b*tchy girls, and some of the pledges had issues with being alcoholic or drama queens, but overall SAEPi didn't do a terrible job of representing the Greek system. As pointed out, you could see their sisterhood. They seemed like they were pretty classy women. And most importantly, in my opinion, they showed the rest of the non-Greek world that sorority girls aren't all stuck-up, anorexic, blonde bimbos who only care about sex, shopping and parties. Now we as Greeks already knew this, but most of the rest of the world didn't. I think SAEPi broadened their definition of what a sorority could be like and made some girls who didn't think they were "sorority material" think again.

DZO came off far worse to most of us, I think, and I'm a little worried about what effect they could have on rush numbers, since they were portraying the hazing, the snottiness and control freak behavior that many non-Greeks associate with the pledge period. However, I've also seen enough posts on message boards that said, "Oh, I know DZO aren't typical Greeks -- these girls are too psychotic to be typical ANYTHING!" Hopefully that's the overwhelming feeling people are getting . . . although I underestimate Americans' stupidity sometimes.

Yes they started last year on campus. Basically because they are a local they do not have to follow NPC rules on expansion and can just "pop" onto campuses. They do not participate in Formal Recruitment and claim they have no intention of doing so.

I believe the Greek Advisor told me that Leah came to campus to reveiw the interest group that had formed last Fall.

We had a chapter of SAEPi.....for a semester. They decided to leave both SAEPi and the multi cultural greek council and join Panhellenic. They changed their name to Alpha Epsilon, and are about 25 girls strong. I don't know if they still want to go national, but this is the first time in a LONG time that a local has been in IFC or Panhellenic, and I'm not sure if our constitution states you must be national after a certain period of time.

Question

I could imagine SAEPi successfully expanding to other schools. DZO wants to expand to other campuses also. However, I don't think it will work after SL2 aired with the lack of sisterhood (oh, sure there was the finale, tltl - too little too late). no philanthopy/community service, just pure unadulterated back stabbing and other shenanigans.
