Tri-Delt at Santa Clara University?
In case you are interested...
Tri-Delt had national reps at Santa Clara University this past Friday and Saturday...they are competing with 7 other sororities to start a chapter here, and expansion plans are moving quite quickly. According to the current timeframe, the sorority will be chosen, housed and have 30-60 members by the end of May. KKG and Tri-Delt are the leading contenders to expand here.
Over 100 girls get rejected each year (and each of the 2 current sororities here have 160 members each), so whatever new sorority we get could probably colonize and be competitive within a single week of informal recruitment.

GreekSCU~
That's great news that Santa Clara is finally expanding! Alpha Phi is one of the 2 National Sororities there, and I know they are forced to turn away a lot of women each year. I also know that the University had wanted to phase out Greek Life over time. What's going on with that? Are the groups that are presenting aware of this too?

That is really great news! It sounds like the campus is ready for expansion, too.
Both Tri Delta and Kappa are great organizations.

In addition to Tri-Delt and KKG, do you know who the other five are?
I also remember a few years ago [I think it was dzjusty who first reported it] that SCU was ready to phase out Greek Life. Whatever the case is, I'm glad that Greek Life is expanding there!

The articles I've found read that Greek life was supposed to be phased out by June 2003. What's up with that? Have they changed their minds?

I thought that they were phasing out too. Who is there now and who are the other 5 groups presenting?

The SCU story is quite long...I'll give you all a full update tomorrow when I'm not so tired.

I know that Tri Delta is expanding at Florida Gulf Coast University in the fall...and KKG is expanding at Harvard. So the school had to go with another, or else they haven't made the decision yet.

Isn't it possible for a GLO to colonize two chapters in the same year? I just love new chapters! Good luck to both Tri-Delta and Kappa Kappa Gamma!!!

It is possible for a sorority to do two expansions in one year, but it won't be happening for Tri Delta this year (at least not in Santa Clara). Someone in this thread
http://forums.greekchat.com/gcforums...025&perpage=15
wrote that SCU has invited Kappa Alpha Theta to colonize next fall. Congratulations to them!

I guess both of our GLOs decided to concentrate on the other new colonies. Congratulations to Theta from me, too!

Hey, I just found this thread. Yeah, Theta got picked, and we're now up to about 115 girls---in a year. Isn't that amazing? It just goes to show that SCU really needed a third sorority. We used to have a third one, Delta Zeta, but because of the University's decision to "phase out" Greek life, they kind of died out. It's sad. This is always a huge point of contention amongst administrators and students, but it's actually helped Greek life grow. The only problem is we can't advertise on campus, besides on our bodies of course, and we can't put "santa clara university" on any of our Greek shirts, although some people do anyway and I don't think the university does anything about it, but I wouldn't know, we never have. There were rumblings about the administrators reembracing the Greek system after we've showed we can grow, not wilt, but that hasn't happened as of yet. Anyways, that's the SCU greek system update---we're gearing up for a great recruitment in the winter!
