Just out of curiousity...
What's up all the thread locking?
I feel like there's a new GL thread locked at least every week and most aren't as duplicated or disrespectful as those encountered in Chit Chat.
Just wondering if I missed something...

Do searches. Multiple threads on the same topic will be locked. So will inappropriate threads, threads that get out of hand..etc.
Play nice and nothing will get locked.

We had better watch our backs, our this one will be locked too...
<insert mission impossible theme as ilovemyglo slams back against computer monitor>
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, find a subject, start a thread and don't let it get controversial, because god forbid we should have discussions on a public forum.
This message will self destruct in 20...19...18...17...

I can see why out-of-hand threads get locked up. But why repeats? As someone pointed out on another thread, new members join GC everyday. Maybe they would like to put their 2 cents in? An opinion that is different that what has been stated? Yes, they are free to add to the old topic. But then you have people saying, "Omg...can't you see that this thread is over a year old?!"
Oi.

Repeats are cluter, if they want to add their opinion to the topic add it to the original thread. Amycat is just doing her job.

Some of the GC moderators are lame. They are so inconsistent.
They lock good threads for stupid reasons.
Some moderators will lock a thread that is posted twice but then they will allow dozens of posts on ebay badges. How many threads have we seen on Ebay badges? There are probably about 2000 posts on total and quota and nobody complains about that.
If the thread is boring it will go away on its own. If it's interesting and nobody is breaking the rules, then leave it alone. Who cares if it is a duplicate. Not everyone is on the net 24/7 to check every single post.

If it's a repeat from three years ago, that's one thing, but sometimes multiple threads on the same topic will pop up at about the same time, especially with "current event" type things. As a user it's a lot easier to have one thread on a topic actually going at a time. So I can see why they lock those.

Q!
As I said before, and I will say it again:
John is in the process of trying to set up a program that if someone post a related thread that it will so those threads!
Until it is done, I agree with DAMASA, stay off of the lock button or delete thread unless it gets totally out of line within the rules of GC.
With the many new members joining GC, they have no clue how to find threads back when dirt was old!
I do not have the time to sit and search for OLD DAMN threads.
If I ask a question that has been on some days, weeks, months, or years ago, I do not know if I dont see it!
According to John, the new processor has a ton of more capability so get over the hang up that there wont be space for all of the More Important posts

As a moderator, I don't like it when other moderators tell me how to do my job.
Therefore, I don't tell other moderators how to do theirs.

OTW, I am not telling You how to do your Mod JOB!
That is all I am going to say about that situation! Get It!
I do not like to hear that tone, as all of us as Moderators are there for the privilage of using discretion not being a Dick Tater of a thread as some GCers think.
I think it is good that this comes out on a thread that other GCers can see whereby, not all Mods are hard asses who do what they think in their little rhealm of authority!
We whom are moderators are not little tin gods, but are supposedly mature people who are here to try moderate threads that get out of hand within the rules and covenants of GC!
ENUFF SAID!!!!

Hmm, is this the point where us regular users lock the thread from moderators?
J/k, chill people, I get annoyed too about the locking, but it isn't the end of the world (heh, you can open a new thread complaining about the locked one, lol) But seriously, why don't we merge threads that are smiliar to the ends of the original ones? Seems like a more reasonable thing than to cut people off from their conversations...

So get over yourselves and move on?
There are PLENTY of better things out there to get bent out of shape about. I've had my own threads deleted/locked or merged.. It's a fact that mods will do what they can to keep discussions positive and do what's best in interest of their forum.
You may not agree with them all the time. Why take up with them in public something you should have probably PM'd them about in the first place?
