Would you attend a Dry mixer or Party
Well its very simple on my campus we have a dry house not a dry house and you can drink in your room type deal an all inclusive dry house. I was trying to convince some of the brothers that a mixer at the house would work. So if you would attend a Dry function for a mixer or Party what would have to be there ie band, theme, great music.....

Hot men. No seriously, if the guys are fun to hang out with I wouldn't care if the function was dry. I actually think getting together for a movie at the house or something might be better.

we have to have 4 non-alchs a semester, 2 with a fraternity and 2 with a sorority. so having a dry social, (we call them socials, not mixers) is no big deal. we usually do bbq's with the fraternities. it's kinda nice to talk to the guys when there's not any alcohol involved

We have fraternities making our girls dinner for mixers at our newest colony. Mixers have become much more than drink fests as when I was in college (NOT THAT LONG AGO!!). I think it's pretty cool that they have dry mixers. That way the folks that don't drink don't have to feel weird.

We've started to have all of our mixers at a public venue...if the people who are 21 and up want to drink, they can, provided they bring their own money for their drinks. So far this semester we've gone bowling, out to a local bar and grill, and this coming week we're going out to dinner with one of the fraternities.
Dry events can sometimes be more fun than alcoholic ones...you don't need the alcohol to have a good time, and besides, people may remember the event the next day

I would indeed attend a dry mixer. I think the problem is that so many people in college are unsure of themselves and who they are, they don't feel confident enough to have fun without this "tool"....

We are a dry campus and NPC says that all events have to be dry anyway. Some of the faternities here seem to have issues with it, but we don't. It's just something that has to be done.

sometimes i think dry functions can be for the best. there always seemed to be some sort of crazy drama involved when we had mixers with alcohol. i think dry functions give people the chance to actually get to know other people instead of just trying to find someone to hook up as well as give people who don't drink more of an opportunity to socialize. i do drink ocassionally but am not big on it, and i know i was always wishing we'd do dry functions so i could actually get to know some of these people in a social setting where they weren't influenced by alcohol. unfortunately, it seems at our school, most people still equate drinking and fun and don't seem to realize you can have fun without the drink!

I've been to a few dry fraternity functions, and I have found that this works best:
a Saturday afternoon, nice weather (not that you can really plan that), burgers and dogs (and veggieburgers) on the grill, people chilling outside and inside, playing pool
Nice weather and outdoor activity will bring people out. They always had a stereo on, but a band would be fun.
I feel like I am rambling, but I think the point is sunshine, food, and music.

Sheesh. If anybody categorically would not attend a dry mixer -- in other words, if someone actually does not see any point in attempting to enjoy the company of friends, conversation, dancing, snacks, games, meeting new people, flirting, music, etc. without a drink -- I advise them to call up the peer counseling office at their university and get screened for a potential alcohol problem. Inability to enjoy yourself without alcohol is a form of dependence.

Mixer ideas
We've had tons of fun dry mixers.
Having a carwash to raise money for philanthropies
Pajama Party
local pool hall
"War Games" (run around campus with water guns for two days and get points for soaking the other fraternity)
"Clue" Mixer (solve the mystery of whodunit!)
Trivia mixer (had the guys answer questions about us and we had to answer questions about them)
silly Olympics
