Hey, thanks for your advise. With the help of you, my sisters, and my mom...this is what I got. I am happy with it. Thanks for the inspiration
6) “What should the Greek women of the year represent?”
In one word the Greek women of the year should represent spirit. The last line of our creed reads “to practice day by day love, honor, and truth. Thus being true to the meaning, spirit, and reality of [chapter name].” Webster defines spirit as a “vital principle,” “a general intent or REAL meaning,” “ a person having character or disposition of a specified nature.” The Greek women of the year must achieve “above the bar.” Excelled involvement and academics are expected. Character and personal strength are expected. Beauty, dignity, grace, and honor are expected. Campus visibility, diplomacy, and a sense of justice are expected. Fun, experience, and charisma are expected. These qualities are the essence of the Greek system. If a woman can achieve a well-rounded balance between these expectations she can stand out.
For a woman to encompass these qualities is not enough. More important is her journey. How did she get there and does she live life every day to represent true womanhood. The beginning of the journey must start with the reasons for joining her respective organization. If a woman joins for sisterhood, opportunity, and spiritual growth her intentions are true to her organizations spirit. Are the values and characteristics she exhibits those that her creed depicts? Can others in her chapter, campus, and community see her shine brighter? Once the woman is a full-fledged member of her organization does she fulfill the obligation that she pledged her mind, spirit, and body to? Finally, does the women have so much pride in her organization that her servitude will continue after her collegiate years?
Know you ask how I relate to the women I have described. I will attempt to describe my self in “not so many words.” Although I have never been accused of being “short winded.” When I came to Oshkosh four years ago I never imagined I would be where I am today. After leaving high school I decided I was too involved with student and community groups. College was going to be my time to kick back and relax. This plan quickly changed as I became intrigued by campus life my second week of school. I joined a sorority and Reeve Union Board Special Events. Immediately I was holding chair positions and exec. board positions on each. I brought our chapters Philanthropy program to new levels through my dedication and community experience. I planned a fun filled Winter Carnival with my committees help. All of these leadership opportunities lead to jobs as the Student Director for Titan Volunteers and an Odyssey Captain.
These accomplishments would mean very little without the relationships I formed and the personal growth I experienced. Of course, along the road there where events that challenged me and threatened my success. Through truly living the values my parents instilled in me, the creed of my organization, and my oath to always hold my head high I surpassed my troubles. This is how I have chosen to live and continue my journey, representing all that is strong yet gentle about a true woman of honor and spirit: the true fraternity women. I would like to hold the title of Greek Women of the Year. If this honor where bestowed on me I would wear it with pride and dignity.
Let me know what you think!!!
