Running for President

Greetings Brothers,

As one of the brothers in attendance this past Sunday in New Orleans for
Bro. Marc Morial, I wanted to share the experience and information
concerning his run for General President.

Even though the weather was bad, rainy and cold, numerous brothers attended
the launching of Bro. Marc's bid for General President.

Some highlights from the event was the remarks made on his behalf, some of
which I share below:

Bro. Shawn D. Wilson, District Director brought greetings on behalf of the
Louisiana District and commented on the commitment to Alpha that Bro.
Morial possessed and how his efforts within the fraternity has increased
the level of effectiveness for brothers within the Louisiana District and
also the nation as a whole. He commented on how Bro. Morial already has a
proven track record in personal and professional networks necessary for
effective leadership.

Bro. Charles C. Te! amer, Sr.,27th General President (85–88) introduced
Bro. Marc and praised him for his leadership and talked about many things,
yet one thing that sticks in my mind was his reference to Bro. Morial being
brought up in Alpha, around Alpha, and by Alpha (remarking on how Bro. Marc
grew up at conventions and Alpha functions due to his family legacy in
Alpha. Both his grandfather, two uncles, and his father - 23rd General
President). He continued talking about how Bro. Morial has all of the tools
necessary to lead the fraternity into the next 100 years.

Bro. Morial talked about his personal history in Alpha, thanked the
brothers and other greeks in attendance and introduced some of his platform
initiatives for the Alpha of the future which includes:

-Develop a National Public Relations and Fundraising Strategy to complete
the M. L. King Memorial in D.C.

-Revisit the Intake Process

-Build on the foundation of the current General President in the Eco! nomic
Development arena by expanding partnerships with major corporations, banks,
insurance companies, and financial institutions.

-Develop the Alpha PAC into an important focus for Alpha's members to
constructively impact the political process.

-Develop a 1st class celebration of Alpha's 100th anniversary in 2006 which
includes literary and film products, the establishment of a first class
electronic and traditional archives, and the development of a 100 strategic
plan.

-Establish "Alpha Endowment" to finance graduate school tuition assistance
program for Brothers. (this is one of my favorite)

These are but a few of his initiatives that he is proposing for our dear
Alpha Phi Alpha.

Bro. Morial has a website for brothers to check out.(www.electmorial.com)
which list all of his platform initiatives and a section that invites
online input from brothers. It also has a page that list 32 reasons why you
should support him. This is a good op! portunity to talk about, lend a
hand, recommend something regarding Alpha to one of the brothers seeking
the highest office within.

In closing, it was a great event that had bad weather, good food, great
brotherhood (we ended with the hymn), and most importantly an event that
has great promise for the future of our fraternity.

I ask that you ask questions, get involved and take a look at Bro. Morial
website (www.electmorial.com). NOW IS THE TIME TO GET INVOLVED.

Much love frat,
Ravis K. Martinez
