Ideas, please!
I just got off the phone with the local university's Admission's Office, and I have an interview tomorrow for an open multicultural admissions recruiter position. I'm stoked, but...
As part of the interview, I have to give a 10-15 minute presentation about any topic that would be of interest to teenagers. I'm at a loss for ideas. Any suggestions?
Also, does anyone have any tips on how to wow them with this presentation? My public speaking skills are minimal and I really want to do a good job. This is a job I would love to have!!
Thanks

I can't think of anything just now, but I would like to wish you the best of luck with your presentation! Knock 'em dead.

maybe a presentation on dating safely? you could cover date rape drugs, meeting people online, safe sex (though that could be too risque depending one what your admins are like), etc.

If public speaking isn't your top strength, try using visual aids such as a colorful poster board or flip chart with key points or handouts to help bolster your speaking presentation.
Since this is a multicultural admissions recruitment role, you might want to try for topics like why going to college is cool. You could talk about campus life and how it makes college years memorable: student clubs, athletics, living in the dorms etc. Why college is beneficial: increased job opportunities, better pay, career center help. Why college is possible for them: financial aid opportunities, on-campus tutoring, academic advisement, work study program etc.
I find it odd that your interviewer would invite you to come in and only give you one day to prepare a presentation. That's kinda harsh!
Just do your best and remember to smile a lot! Best of success to you!

Thanks for the ideas and well wishes, y'all!
I think I'm going to do PowerPoint and then visit my friendly neighborhood Kinkos once I decide on a topic. I'm thinking maybe "How College Differs from HS" or something similar. I really want to focus on study skills and things of that nature. I'm also considering Ginger's "safe dating" practices.
Kelly-I think the basis of this is "working under pressure", which I guess the position entails. I know they've been trying to get ahold of me for a few days, but since I moved they couldn't contact me by phone
Anyhow, keep any ideas coming!!! LOL.

This is just a random idea, but what about a presentation on how any kid going to college could be "the total college student"?
For example, so and so university has fitness facilities, personal trainers, and healthy eating in the cafeteria. Our professors will make you smarter (use stats about how they're top notch). We have a tutoring program on campus. On the weekends, such and such club and maybe a sports bar/restaraunt or something are all good options to have fun.
You'd have to personalize it but it would be cool b/c you'd show that you're in touch w/college age kids- we want to get good grades, but we're concerned about having fun and being healthy too.

Picture them in their underwear!! Just kidding. That one never worked for me. Eye contact is good! Also, if you are going to use visual aides, you could make some copies so they can keep as notes to remember you by.
You have some great suggestions going on !!! I like all of them. Right now, the one about studying skills seems the best, because t hat is something I don't have and didn't get out of high school
Best of luck w/ your interview !!
